Rare vegan options in Grinnell! - Edit
The first time I visited it was around 8:30 pm on a Sunday. The place was absolutely packed. They'd run out of food, and so I wasn't able to order anything. But obviously some Sunday restaurant options are needed in Grinnell.
Read moreI was finally able to circle back again this week, and I'm glad I did. It was very empty on Friday for lunch. The portion sizes are generous and good for sharing, and the cost was very reasonable.
I ordered the chana masala, basmati rice, and tandoori roti. There was plenty for 2 to share with leftovers, and it came to about $17. I asked for medium heat, and there really was no spice to speak of. I'll definitely ask for hot next time.
They have Beyond Meat on the menu, which is cool, but not for any vegan options, which is a bummer. The vegan options in general are a little slight in comparison to most mainstream Indian restaurants. Since this place is fully vegetarian, it would be nice if they would have a listed vegan alternative for more options.
I would definitely go back again, especially if in the area since there are so few vegan options in Grinnell. I love it that it's right off the highway, which makes it convenient for roadtrips.
Pros: Tasty food, Good prices, Generous portion sizes
Cons: Could be spicier, Would like vegan options with Beyond Meat, Would like more vegan options in general

A hidden gem! - Edit
We were pleasantly surprised to find such tasty vegan food right off of I-80. Some of the best, most flavorful food we’ve found in the rural Midwest.

Holy Cow! Vegan Options - Edit
If you're cruising down I-80 and hunger strikes, do yourself a favor and pull over at I-80 Dhaba in Grinnell, Iowa. This place isn't your run-of-the-mill roadside stop; it's where culinary tradition meets the interstate. The food here is unapologetically authentic—Indian fare that’s bursting with flavor and soul. The vegan options are clearly marked, so you know exactly what you’re getting into, but trust me, whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. The portions are hearty, the flavors refined, and the prices won’t make you wince. Dhaba is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special—because you have.
