And the winner is…

I travel about 30 times a year and I’m always looking for the best vegan Soulfood. There is a place in Raleigh North Carolina that has amazing “chickin“ and waffles. Otherwise, there is no vegan soul food that has come close to the Hungry Vegan. As I was eating the food that was delivered, several (non vegan) people said they wanted some. If I lived in Savannah I think I would eat here every day.

A Vegan Soul Food Paradise in Savannah

The best plant-based REAL soul food my wife and I have ever had. The fried oyster mushrooms and cauliflower, collards, black eyed peas, mac n cheese were so flavorful and prepared with love—by the warm and wonderful owner. We also indulged and split a plant-based ooey gooey and decadent peach cobbler. A MUST stop for Savannah locals and a quick 5 min uber ride from the historic district for fellow visitors to this awesome city. So delicious
😋 ❤️

So glad I finally got here!

So glad I was finally able to have their amazing food!
My favorites were the vegan loaf, cabbage, fried mushrooms and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.
I’m glad I have leftovers!

Delicious soul food

We almost never get to go the Hungry Vegan because we live in Beaufort and their hours normally align with our work schedules. But managed to swing by on a whim today on the way to an event. Did not disappoint! 10/10

Nice little place

The food is displayed in hot trays. Looks amazing and smells great. Unfortunately, I did not purchase anything because I am gluten free too.

Pros: clean, smelled great

Cons: not too clear on what was and wasn't gluten free

Didn't judge a book by it's cover

FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC! We stopped in on Christmas Eve, luckily for us they were open! This is legit real deal vegan soul food. The oyster mushrooms were fried too perfection (coming from a mushroom snob). The Mac and cheese was phenomenal and I usually hate restaurant Mac & cheese. The spaghetti was flavorful and perfectly seasoned. I could go on and on and the food it was just so good!!

The staff is wonderful and friendly even though they were serving us on Christmas Eve, they were still cheerful and welcoming.

The inside the restaurant is clean and comfortable with plenty of seating. The outside isn't much to look at and it is located in an industrial area. But I am a small woman and I still felt safe, definitely not sketchy, just industrial. Don't judge a book by it's cover, go get you some AMAZING soul food!

Pros: Ready to eat, Indoor seating, Delicious

VEGAN MAC AND CHEESE

This was genuinely some incredible soul food. The vegan mac and cheese was easily the best I’ve ever had and it’s not even close. This is a MUST stop place!!!!

Wonderful

Stopped by on a road trip. We got the specials of the day, meatless loaf and mushroom lasagna. Both were great! The Mac n cheese was the best I’ve had as a vegan.

Wonderful owner!!

A MUST in Savannah.

Very unassuming, very delicious. This is proper southern comfort food-all vegan. The staff was so friendly and the food was out of this world.

Shame it's the only fully vegan spot in Savannah it seems but it shines even brighter because of that. A must try.

Best Vegan Meal in almost two years

Vegan almost two years. Visited Savannah in September. The food was excellent. I had the fried mushrooms, collards, potatoes and green beans, rice and gravy and corn bread. Everything was seasoned so well. The portions were generous. Absolutely the best I’ve had since being vegan

Pros: Food was great, Superb customer service

Cons: They were not open on Saturday, my last day there

Underwhelming Experience at Hungry Vegan

After hearing good things about Hungry Vegan, I was eager to give it a try, even though it required quite a trek to get there. Sadly, the food didn't justify the effort. We only ordered one dish to share, and I’m glad we didn’t order more because it fell short of our expectations. I've had far better Southern Vegan food elsewhere, and I won’t be making a return visit.

Home style southern cooking

I came in before they closed around 5 PM. I had the Salisbury steak with collard greens potatoes corn bread, and rice. It reminded me of a home-cooked meal. The Salisbury steak was very flavorful. The collard greens were the perfect texture and flavorful. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of the potatoes, but I like how they weren’t cooked in oil. Overall, definitely try this restaurant if you’re in Savannah.

Pros: Great food, Healthy options

Cons: Closes at 6 pm

Authentic southern food

Now I’m neither Southern nor American, but this feels like proper southern food to me!! The mac and cheese was maybe the best vegan mac and cheese I’ve ever had, and the fried cauliflower was SO good!

We were two people, but we ordered 3 side dishes (2 cornbread slices, 1 side of mac and cheese and 1 side of fried cauliflower) and that was more than enough food for us for a lunch! The portions were really big, so we even brought home leftovers.

Everyone driving through Savannah should definitely head in here!

Pros: Great southern food, Friendly staff

A lovely lunch

We got the fried cauliflower, Mac and cheese and cornbread and it was all delicious. Wish we could have tried more, but the portions were so big, we were so full by the end!

Perfect Cauliflower

I really don't care for southern food much so I wasn't expecting to love this but I got a fried cauliflower burger and it was fantastic. It was fried perfectly. They only have yellow bbq though. The Mac and cheese was slightly off but not the worst vegan Mac I've had. I would guess the lemonade is powder. I would definitely return! And the staff was really sweet.

My non-vegan bestie loved it.

We loved everything! As a matter of fact we went On a Saturday when the menu is a little smaller so I got an extra meal since we are visiting and that meant I was able to get a little of everything. My non vegan friend loved everything especially the Salisbury Steak.
This is must go to when we vacation in Beaufort, South Carolina from now on. We'll worth the hour plus drive.

Great food, friendly staff

We had the Salisbury steak, it was hard to choose from such good side dishes (wife ordered extra side dish). Iced tea was really good.

Pros: Great side dishes to choose from, Good drink options

Potentially really good

I think the concept and offerings of the menu are really good. The fried cauliflower would've been exceptional, if it wasn't SOOO salty. I got the Big Vegan Soul Food Plate with Fried Cauliflower, which comes with choice of 3 "vegetables." I chose the okra, black-eyed peas, and Lima beans (no collard greens?? 😔). The 2 bean sides were too salty to finish, and I'm a girl who never wastes food. 😔🥺 The okra was really good, the Mac and cheese was very creamy and good. We also got the fried salad (salad with fried cauliflower) and the cauliflower burger, a side of black-eyed peas and 2 lemonades. (As I already stated, the fried cauliflower was super salty, and since it was in everything, that was pretty disappointing.) We were charged $79... and I'm not sure how it could've totaled to that amount. (I am certain they overcharged us, but we didn't realize it until later.) They are the only vegan restaurant in Savannah and seem like nice people. I hope they can streamline their ordering system (so they don't overcharge) and go lighter on the salt so that people will want to go back. I probably would not.

Favorite vegan restaurant in Savannah

This fully vegan restaurant has so many delicious southern soul food dishes. The fried mushrooms were an absolute favorite. All of the sides are delicious too - mac and cheese, black eyed peas, greens, potatoes, okra. While the outside doesn’t look like much, don’t let that keep you away. The inside is cozy and the service comes with a smile.

Every was delicious

We got a vegetable plate and a Salisbury steak plate. It was a LOT of food and all tasted amazing. You could tell it was homemade. The mac and cheese was some of the best we’ve had. Service was quick and nice. If we lived near we’d be regulars.

Pros: Delicious , Big portions , Good service
