Awesome Vegan Menu - Edit
There was a separate vegan menu with about 15 options. The eggplant tofu, spinach pasta and kumara maple salad were amazing. The vegan wine selection was great too. We went there with non vegan friends and they loved their food too.

A little underwhelming - Edit
This place has decent service and a reasonable vegetarian menu. Some of the entree items were tasty, but I found the mains a little underwhelming and bland.

Great place for some fancier vegan food - Edit
This place has a full vegan menu which is nice. Plenty of starters to choose from. I had the cauliflower cakes to start with, and I’m glad I did. This is the dish I’d come back for. Beautiful flavour and crunchy texture to the cakes, and with combination the sauces every bite left you wanting more. I was rather disappointed once it was finished. I’ll probably order two of these next time.
Read moreI had the noodles for main (there were only two choice for mains), wasn’t bad, but not as memorable the first dish.
I squeezed in dessert and boy was I happy I did. Chose the sticky date pudding. Normally I find sticky date pudding hit and miss. For me it can’t be too sweet or the cake can’t be too dense. This version was probably the best I’ve had. Everything was on point, couldn’t fault it.
Yep, I’d go back 👍
Pros: Cauliflower cakes, Sticky date
Cons: No major cons

Delicious high tea - Edit
We tried the vegan high tea: it is expensive (45 nzd per person), but it’s really worth it.

First visit great, second visit awful - Edit
First time I visited was amazing. Unfortunately things weren't great on the second visit. Most of the food on the vegan menu is still cooked in the same oil as all the fish (they don't tell you this). They rushed us the entire time, the place was empty yet they took our starter food off us before we had even finished and our main came out all soggy. Not the waitresses fault, it was the chefs, we could hear them hurrying the waitress to take our plates as they cooked the main SO early.

Nice to have a fully vegan high tea! We loved all of it! Tons of food and a decent price for high tea (comparable to ones I've had in several other cities).

for a special occasion - Edit
Prices are high but in my opinion (and my friend who I went with) worth the quality of the food, but it's not the kind of place to go to regularly, so perhaps plan to do so when there's a reason to celebrate.
Read moreWe had the pumpkin nut ravioli which was divine😄The vanilla panacotta was also a great treat for dessert.
They don't have a separate veg menu, but vegan and vegetarian items are clearly marked.

No vegan menu any more - Edit
Don’t go.
Read moreWe went because there was nice sounding vegan and plant based menus on their website. When I asked for it when I arrived they went away to find it only to come back and say they have amalgamated all their menus into one. This means there is far fewer vege or vegan now. I think one veg main and one vegan? I had the pumpkin ravioli which was nice but 5 large ravioli doesn’t justify a 30 dollar price tag.
The vegan chocolate dessert was not nice at all. I believe it was raw. What a pity because raw food can be delicious but this was a fairly tasteless dense log and a very icy sort of sorbet. My friend only ate maybe two or three bites of hers.
The girls serving were very sweet but the level of service was nowhere near the fine dining level they claim to be at eg no water too ups, no checking if the food was okay etc.
We asked for a discount for the uneaten dessert and to be fair were given some money off for that item and asked to fill in a feedback form.
I’d suggest odettes if you’re looking for fine dining in this part of town or even the food truck
Pros: Location, Raw food available
Cons: Little veg or vegan, Price, Service considering price

Average food for steep prices - Edit
Lots of clearly labelled vegan options on the menu. However, the planked tofu was not very tasty despite the diversity of ingredients, as an entree. The main, pumpkin ravioli, was very good but quite small for a $30 dish.
Read moreMost of the waiters were trainees and they were full of good will but really lacked experience.
Over all I expected much better food and service for the price.

Third time lucky? - Edit
I’ve been there twice so far. First time was an absolute stunner - amazing food and service. Second time they tried to convince my celiac Mum that their semolina was gluten free and when we asked if they could make sure they said they’d googled it (obviously not very well) and it was fine. Luckily we didn’t order it to find out about this mythical wheat free semolina but the rest of the meal was fine. Maybe if we went back a third time it would be stunning again but I’m not sure I’m willing to take the chance...

Vegan Fine Dining - Edit
You'll find top quality, high-end vegan food here. I've tried the vegan high tea, and degustation dinner, both of which were splendid. Totally LOVE their $20 all-you-can-eat raw breakfasts. Will definitely be re-visting in future.

Delicious Dinner and High Tea - Edit
Myself and the omni boyfriend have been here twice so far - once for their vegan high tea, and once for dinner.
Read moreThe high tea was lovely. The savouries included a few sandwiches - tomato and vegan cheese, and cucumber and avocado - as well as spring rolls and falafel. A variety of the restaurant's desserts was also featured, but I found the scones to be the star of the show. They were decadent. Dense. I ate more than my fair share, that's for sure. The tea selection was good, and the restaurant offered soy milk to go with.
The dinner was nice. The star for both of us was the buffalo cauliflower starter - delicious as it was spicy! For mains I had the semolina herbed eggplant, and my boyfriend had the chive gnocchi. Both were fine, I found the eggplant a bit oily and my boyfriend found the gnocchi a bit too squishy, but overall a good experience.
For dessert I had the raw chocolate delice - the restaurant's special. It IS delicious, but also incredibly rich. The day I was there they offered a chocolate sorbet with the dish, which did nothing to cut through the decadent chocolate of the dessert. Between the two of us, we didn't manage to finish it, which was a bit sad.
Pros: Good selection of mains and desserts, Delicious scones
Cons: Mains were okay, nothing special

Chique Vegan Dining - Edit
Wednesday 23 November was our second time vegan dining at Hectors, the first time was almost a year ago. Hectors is a great place to go if you want your dinner to be chique in a vegan friendly environment. Good food, sufficient choice and acceptable priced. The waiting isa bit long though and the rather young staff a bit nervous and pushy, they asked how the food was before the first bite! Otherwise good service.

The raw breakfast is served here each day is awesome. The all-you-can-eat vegan buffet provides a range a home made vegan cheeses, kimchi, salads, cashew yogurt and the standards like cereal. Excellent quality. The price is reasonable considering it's all you can eat, the ingredients are fresh and the food is home made.

Vegans do not trust!! - Edit
For a restaurant that prides itself being allergy aware, and specialists in vegan and vegetarian food, I was shocked to find out that food brought out to me wasn't actually vegan.
Read moreI asked at the very beginning to notify the chef just to make sure that everything brought out to me was 100% vegan.
They brought me out some complimentary bread and olive oil as a dip. As I always do just to make sure, I asked the waitress if the bread was definately vegan before I ate it. She went over to the chef who looked at the ingredients to find there was egg white inside. The chef looked over at me, with a sort of 'sorry smirk' and so I decided to leave before the main course came.
The waitress tried to barter with me, telling me it was a mistake but the rest of the meal is definately vegan. I told her I had lost all trust, and I walked out.

Fairly-priced quality vegan dining - Edit
What a great find! With the majority of dishes being veg*n, it's safe to say that this place is more carnivore-friendly than veg-friendly. We ordered three apps, one main, and a dessert. Everything was great and beautifully presented. Though, if I were to nitpick, I'd argue that 1) the macadamia cheese in their signature salad was a bit underwhelming compared to the amazing vegan cheeses I've tasted in the US and 2) the mushrooms in the mushroom tartlet dish were slightly oversalted. The chocolate dessert trio was otherwise stellar and a perfect way to round off our overall enjoyable meal. Including a glass of wine and tax, the bill came to about NZ$100, which I thought was very reasonable given the quality delivered.
Read moreService was friendly and polite, but a tad slow. Décor is relaxing with tables well spaced apart. My only gripe was the 1.5% surcharge they imposed on credit cards. I'd understand if it was a small mom-and-pop food truck, but for an upscale restaurant in a 4* hotel in the city center?
Pros: fine vegan dining, good value
Cons: slow service
