You have to go there for the experience rather than the food itself (although the food is good, but nothing crazy).
This is a teeny tiny restaurant that can only accommodate 4 tables for 4. It's fully decorated with old, authentic Vietnamese trinkets. Walking into the place feels like you're entering another world or time.
The owners are an elderly couple, the husband who is Vietnamese is also the chef. Their kindness was unmatched. We got there pretty late and unannounced on my birthday after the restaurant we had booked a table with (and had a reputation for being vegetarian and vegan-friendly) turned out to be pretty unwelcoming/unwilling to veganize their dishes. The owners of Hao Binh saved my birthday! They were totally happy to veganize a dish for me and didn't overcharge me or make me feel like I was a weirdo.
The whole meal felt like we were having dinner at our loving grandparents' house. The service was incredible and both my kids struck up a friendship with the lady.
We even had a view of Etretat's cliffs from our table.
I'm not sure I can convey just how unexpected and amusing the evening was. The owners clearly don't do it only for the money and put their heart into making people feel good and that is priceless to me.
It was an honour and pleasure to meet those 2 souls and I'll remember my 36th birthday fondly thanks to them.
