Worth the wait - Edit
We had to wait in Line for quite a bit, but it's definitely worth the wait since the food was soooo good. The gyoza we're so delicious, I would Love to come back. They have a seperaten Veggie Menü where the difference between vegan and vegetarian dishes is clearly marked. You can also pre-order after your first Order If you're still hungry. Everyone was friendly and the food was soooo good!

Good Service, tasty Gyoza - Edit
We waited about 40 minutes on a Sunday evening. The service was really nice and fast. We liked the atmosphere. The gyoza were really tasty, the staff even recommended the best choice of sauces for the gyoza we‘ve ordered.

I'm still buzzing - Edit
We waited about an hour in line, and it was worth every minute. What an experience! We sat at the counter and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere the staff created. They love what they do, and they enjoy interacting with their customers. And the FOOD is heavenly!!! We got the set menu with the two vegan gyoza options. Just wow!

Pretty good but not amazing - Edit
There are clearly labeled vegan items on the menu, including 2 gyozas. I didn’t quite like the yuba gyoza one, but loved the vegetable one. This was a popular spot with a long lineup, even nearing closing time. Good experience overall - cute space & friendly staff too.

Not really worth the wait - Edit
This is a very touristy restaurant. There wasn't a single Japanese customer in the place and everything is in English. Not that that's inherently a bad thing, but the prices were high and wait times very long. We had to wait over an hour to get in.
Read moreThere are only 2 vegan gyoza options, which you can order as part of a "no meat set", which was just under 2,000yen. On paper it sounded like quite a lot of food but in reality, the portion was very small. I was still hungry afterwards and wished they had some rice to go with it.
The gyoza themselves were just meh. A bit soggy and oily. I've had frozen ones from the supermarket that were better.

Nice experience - Edit
For us it was more of a cultural experience than a dinner. The staff is very nice and welcoming and you sit right in front of them. The gyozas are good however i prefered the ones at T's Tantan. Not sure it worths the 40 minutes wait. Also the fixed menu portion is small for the price.

Best Meal in Kyoto! - Edit
Probably the best meal I had in Kyoto. Reached early in the evening around 6:20 and had to line up for about 40 mins. Literally everything on the menu was delicious! They use the same skillet for all gyozas though so if you are not comfortable with that this place can be avoided. Tried the Yuba Gyoza, Vegetable Gyoza, Mushroom Gyoza with Cheese, Cheese Balls. My partner ordered the Pork Gyozas and was beyond happy. The staff was so so so friendly, super comfortable with English and all around it was a super comfortable yet authentically Japanese vibe. Highly highly HIGHLY recommend! PS: Must try the peach sour!!

The vegetable Gyoza was pretty good, but the tofu skin Gyoza was disappointing. The staff are really friendly and it had a fun atmosphere. They do takeout.

Stopped here for a quick take out bite to eat at my hotel. I got the potato and veggie gyoza. They had a pretty large vegan menu. I highly recommend giving them a try.

Worth the wait! - Edit
Visited on September 20, 2023. After seeing the Chao Chao Gyoza hype on TikTok, I was intrigued by their 50 gyoza varieties, including some vegan options! Given my love for dumplings, my partner and I attempted to visit a few times, but we were unwilling (and too hungry) to wait 1 to 2 hours 😅 Eventually, we managed to go early and secured a spot.
Read moreThe “no meat no fish menu” featured clearly marked vegan choices, and in my excitement, I might have ordered more than necessary. Among the options, the yuba gyoza stood out as my favorite. It’s worth noting that not all Chao Chao Gyoza locations provide vegan selections, so it’s advisable to check beforehand before planning your visit!

Very friendly staff and separate veg menu
Read moreThe gyoza is tasty, but what sets this place apart are the miso condiments on the table - they’re so delicious!
There is a set menu (other reviews have pics of menu) and a la carte.
Be aware though, we went on a weekday at around 8pm and had to wait over an hour to get in…

Chao Chao Gyoza has a good atmosphere and selection of gyozas for vegetarians and vegans. The atmosphere is fun and very busy. I'd highly recommend going but bare in mind there could be a queue especially if going after 6pm.

Loved the veg plate! Got cold tofu side dish (topped with green onion and some sauce), yuba gyoza, and veg/tofu gyoza. Had been craving both tofu and gyoza and this hit the spot. Would give 5 stars.

Food really good, long wait - Edit
We got there at around 7pm on a public holiday and had to wait around an hour. I would estimate that people arriving 30 mins later had to wait even longer. Since guests were mainly tourists, I don‘t think we would have waited much shorter on a weekday.
