Read moreAnd the food was incredibly yummy and very generous …I also couldn’t help it and had to try the cake made with persimmons from there garden. It was fantastic…I loved it. The atmosphere, the people, the food…just great.

Superb Food - Edit
Really excellent food - including the cake and a good range of homemade drinks - ginger ales and kombuchas are delicious and refreshing. The chocolate and coconut tart was irresistible.

What a happy find! - Edit
On a bus tour to Monchique. The tour guide said I'd be unlikely to find *any* vegan food. Happy Cow said otherwise, and Happy Me found this little gem of a place.

An organic dish of the day, desserts to make the grumpiest grump smile and coffee that really means it. What's not to like.
Deserving of a "This is Spinal Tap" 6 out of 5, this place is worth a big detour if you're anywhere in South West Portugal.

Cuisine recherchée, et familiale. Soupe de brocolis ultra crémeuse épicée comme il faut, polenta avec plein de légumes… tout très bon et le gâteau à la mangue hyper gourmand. Côté boisson, idem, tout est délicieux et fait maison !!

We came here twice while staying about an hour away. Everything was delicious, the ambiance is lovely, and the service is excellent and friendly. I especially loved the beet stack and the pea soup (similar to a North American split pea soup, but I liked it better - it was bit lighter and had a mint garnish that worked well).

If you are in Monchique you should visit Grumpy Mamas. Really delicious food made with love and attention for detail. All organic and vegan. Home made kombuchas and delicious deserts. Every day they have a set menu of soup, main desert that you can should from. Absolute friendly people as well. And to top it off they have a few seats outside overlooking Monchique. Love it!

We chose a hiking route near Monchique especially because of the restaurant. As it turned out, it - the restaurant of course 😉 - was even better than expected. We received a very friendly welcome, the ambience was nice and relaxed and, most importantly, the food was great! We had the beautifully presented and very very tasty chilli bowl and a cinnamon bun for the sweet tooth of us. Delicious! The Portuguese craft beer was also very tasty as was the juice of the day. All in all, I would happily give it more than 5 stars. We are thrilled.

We had a wonderful time and ate amazing VEGAN food in the middle of this quaint town in southern Portugal. The staff was super-friendly.

Great 100% vegan variety - Edit
We were overjoyed to find a completely vegan place while visiting Monchique 👍😀 ... We both had the roasted cauliflower salad (absolutely glorious). My wife was thrilled to see that they have plant milk, so she could enjoy a latte. I had a glass of cold kombucha tea infused with some berries (delicious). If we'd been able to fit more food, we'd have tried some of the desserts. FYI, every Wednesday is gluten free.

A true gem - Edit
We found this apparently brand new café on Happy Cow and it is a gem. Delicious lunch options and gorgeous cakes. We went there on a Wednesday when all foods are gluten-free, too. Highly recommend checking this out.
