Should've gone here earlier! - Edit

Me and my partner doubted to visit this place because of a bad review we saw on Tripadvisor. We are very very cautious about the restaurants we go to because of the hygiene (one of us has UC so we are very careful). I wish we had just trusted the hundreds of good reviews and went at the beginning of our stay because it was lovely! So lovely, that we went for breakfast, dinner and the next day lunch again :) The owner is from Chile, as is his wife and children. Lovely people with kind hearts, the positivity is all around you in their establishments with quotes (see pictures I added) - very vegan-minded. We ordered the following things:

- Burger - We read a couple of reviews about the burger being tasteless and hard. We disagree with this, it was very tasty! Maybe it isn't as soft as the burgers we are used to in Europe/USA, but bear in mind that you are in Thailand. Processed foods like burgers in vegan junkfood bars in western society aren't going to be here, you will eat natural food!

- Empanada - Absolutely lovely, very big and tasty. The pastry is the best, you will not find anything like it in TL!

- Soup - I forgot the name but in the menu it says it's medicinal. The bowl is massive and full of veggies, lovely taste and nice to share.

- Falafel&hummus wrap - Again, it is a very very big portion :D and we liked it very much. Good falafel!

- Hot dog - Please, don't leave Ao Nang before tasting the hotdog, it was sooo nice! The bun and the sauces made it perfect.

- Chicken wrap - This one seems to be new and I tried it today. I have to say, I didn't think it was anything like chicken but the taste was very very good. Don't expect it to be a replica of meat, it is just lovely tasty vegan food with a twist :)

Govinda's restaurant is up the high street to the right, near Umberto's Italian restaurant. They also have a big establishment where they have a buffet (this is more hindu-based) and they have Govinda on the beach (Railay) where we are going to tomorrow (excited!). If you upload your own review, please choose the right establishment as all three are different!

One more thing, I have read bad reviews because the Thai staff doesn't seem friendly. Please be aware that you are in another country, with different facial expressions and different behaviour. These people just do their job, customer service is very different here. Be grateful for a vegan venue and focus on the love they put in their dishes. Make sure to visit this place :D

Pros: Great vegan food, Positive vibes, Big portions

good empanadas - Edit

Both the Mrs and I loved the big full empanadas (baked not fried) I had vegan she had one with cheese.
Free salad with order over 100 baht. (So every order!)
Nice atmosphere. Cosy. Will go again worth the 10 mins we had to walk
Oh saw the lasagne come out it's huge!! And at time of writing 200 baht it would easy serve 2.

Not great first experience - Edit

Really didn’t like burger. Tasteless and covered in mayo/sauce. Falafels and hummus I got to take away saved it. Might try again and pick differently from menu but disappointing first visit.

Updated from previous review on 2018-03-31

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Not cooked from scratch, reheated and assembled

tasty BIG portion of lasange - Edit

Went there for lunch with my boyfriend. We both ordered lasagne's. It was very tasty, and was nice to eat familiar homefood - nice change for thaifood.

But. Lasagne portions were huge, we could have easily just splitted one lasagne together, and would have felt full.

Pros: nice options, big portions

Not good - Edit

Went there with my boyfriend, the menu looked good so I was excited. I got the hummus sandwich and it was so bad, two slices of normal bread and loads of carrot and something alse on it, it tasted bad and I also found a hair in it.
My boyfriend got the burger and he also didn’t like it and he has almost no standards for food.

Pros: all vegetarian

Cons: bad food, hair in food

Best Vegan Desserts! - Edit

The food was tasty, good choice with both healthy and more indulgent foods available. The best thing by far was the chocolate custard pudding. Truly tasty, if you're craving something sweet it's not one to miss. Lovely staff.

food is just ok. - Edit

Western food in Thailand is not great in general. The soup was good. Custard was blah. Burger was bland and COVERED in mayonnaise. Vegan pizza was blah and had a mountain of dried Italian seasoning on it. Falafel was just ok. The waitress/ worker had a bad attitude from the second we got there (both times) and we had to flag her down every time we wanted something. To which she looked annoyed af every time. The place is literally tiny. There’s no way she didn’t know we needed stuff.

Pros: shakes were good

Cons: pretty much everything else.

We ate at Govindas last night and we couldn't fault it at all. The setting is very cute and owner and her family are very friendly and welcoming.

The food is really tasty (especially the lasagne!) With a good choice of mains to choose from we will defiantly go back tonight.

Cons: burger meal was small. (didn't come with salad or

Place has potential - Edit

Small cafe just outside of town with friendly, English speaking staff. Same menu as at Govinda’s at the Beach, but this place has seating. Nice selection of dishes (approx. 10-15), fully vegetarian with quite a few vegan options. Unfortunately the food is not cooked fresh, but prepared before and then heated up to be served. It is not a proper restaurant experience therefore, which makes it difficult to compete with some of the delicious Thai restaurants in town. Great though if you’ve had enough of Thai food and crave a pizza, pie, falafel or wrap for an evening.

Homely atmosphere AMAZING food - Edit

The soy burger here is to die for omg. American hot dog was incredible. The vegan chocolate pudding is something I will crave for ever. The food took a while but only because it's prepared properly. My friend who isnt vegan frothed over the spinach pie and soy burger. Absolutely phenomenal

Had clearly marked up vegan options.
Reasonably priced.
Food selection was western style.
Was very busy when we visited. Seemed a bit chaotic.
We had quite a long wait for our food.

Family restaurant, Staff are really friendly.
Food, juices, desserts all good. The only Vegan restaurant I found around.
there isn't many options in the Menu but they are all good.
You may have to wait a bit if it's get busy because they are short in staff but it's worth it.

A vegan oasis in the heart of Ao Nang - Edit

A beautiful vegan restaurant, one of very few in Ao Nang. The food is excellent, importantly you don’t have to compromise on traditional cuisine for a great vegan meal at Govindas. If you are interested in something non-Thai, I would definitely recommend the lasagne, possibly the best I’ve ever had (vegan or non-vegan) it was delicious!!

Pros: atmosphere, decor, friendly staff

Cons: only open from 12

well.. nice - Edit

Went after I was at their restaurant on the beach (which was really good and fresh). I was kinda disappointed, first of all it is far from everything, I had to go for like 20 minuets till I found the place.
Second, everything is pre-made and just getting hit up with order. Therefore it’s kinda hard to understand why it took them 15 minuets to make my order when I was the only one there.

Sweets looked nice but I didn’t try them.

Overall- nice and tiny place, it’s always nice to see “vegan” signs around, but there are many better options on other restaurants around.

Mostly prepared and warmed-up opn order - Edit

Actually I was kind of disappointed. It is 100% vegetarian, and has a lot of vegan options, but it could so better.

The falafel was too dry, the hummus a cold liquid, the soup lacked taste, the shakes contained not enough fruit and too much water, and the rest was prepared and only heated-up opon order.

The location is nice, but they could do better!

Extraordinary delicious food!! - Edit

I ate here several times during my visit to Ao Nang. Everything I tried was absolutely amazing from the vegetarian lasagna to the spinach pie and falafel wrap.

I also highly recommend the pumpkin pie and vegan custard.

The staff is great and super friendly.

Space is limited, especially in peak dining hours.

I would give 10 stars if possible.

Cons: limited seating.

We’ve nearly tried the whole menu and we keep going back for more because it’s so delicious
You can tell the food is cooked with love and is wholesome
The drinks are also delicious with a variety of fruit shakes with your choice of plant milk
The lady who owns the place is also very friendly and welcoming and is always down for a chat

Really special place - Edit

This little restaurant serves really good food (both vegan and vegetarian), all home made and with quality ingredients for an affordable price. What I liked the most was the kindness of the owner while explaining things and answering all our questions.
It also has very cute decorations and shares a beautiful concept.

It was my first time travelling overseas as a vegan and I was nervous about not having many options to eat. But this place was such a fantastic find and I ate here every day. It was such a relief to find! The place is so beautifully decorated with love and has such a nice, relaxed vibe. The food is also so yummy! The lasagna was so delicious, as well as the vegan deserts. I would definitely recommend this place!
