Better options out there

Yay for being vegan and supporting important causes! The food is pretty bland and blah, though, and they don’t serve hot coffee which I feel like is the minimum thing you have to have to serve a brunch. They had premade cold brew but I really didn’t like it.

Pros: All vegan

Cons: Expensive, No coffee, Food not good

Hella good

I never had the honor of going to Hella Vegan Eats, but Ginger’s Gay4U Vegan Eats is amazing! I’m so glad I made the time to preorder over the phone and stop by to pick up a magic breakfast burrito and a maple glazed donut with coconut bacon. Adding fried chick’n and avocado to the burrito was definitely worth it. And the tortilla chips that came with the burrito were nicely seasoned.

I can’t wait to try her other menu items, including the breakfast platter, the kimchi chilaquiles, mac ‘n’ cheese tacos, and the other donut flavors! I’d also like to get some of her house made ahuevo egg substitute, strawberry habanero hot sauce, cream cheese, ricotta, and other goodies. Everything looks so good!

Cool place, good food GREAT donuts

I live nearby so I get this a lot. Here’s the thing. Don’t pick the healthier-sounding things. You don’t want a salad, you want, like, a buffalo chicken sandwich on a bun made of waffles. Very cool, friendly, progressive people own and operate this place. I no longer think Voodoo Donuts in Portland have the best vegan donuts. Honestly, Vegan Donut Gelato here in Oakland makes donuts that are just as good as Voodoo, as does Dottie’s Donuts in Philly. They all make the same kind of donuts. These are a little different. They’re thin thick and crispy and they melt in your mouth, whereas the other kind is less dense, have no crisp, but also do melt in your mouth. I mean, both kinds are great but I really think these are the best I ever had. They’re magic. You will love them.

Pros: Good people, Donuts!, Yummm

Cons: Don’t choose healthier-sounding stuff

Hit or miss but mostly hit

First, I have so much love and mad respect for the owner. They spend so much time on their food making everything from scratch and I can’t imagine how complicated the dishes are. The doughnuts are the bomb. So good. Some dishes are really good, like the fried chicken. The misses were an extremely spicy sandwich once and a very bad pozole soup. All in all, I haven’t found a reason to not keep going back.

Pros: Trans POC eat for free!

Downtown cafe okay food

I wanted to love this place but my food experience was mixed. The homemade yoghurt was excellent. However our main meals were over salty.

Pros: Good value and location in the city center, Friendly staff

Fun and friendly in downtown OAK

Sweet little spot with a surprisingly creative menu. We tried the burger and it was outstanding and very hearty. The brunch menu is different from the regular menu and also includes their breakfast plate which was overflowing in an amazing array of healthy and perfectly prepared veggies including a "squash scram" and cashew coconut cream cheeze. Order at the counter and then grab a table shared with another restaurant that appears to be closed on weekends. You may have to share or wait for a table if it's during a busy time. Great to support a vegan business started by a trans person of color, especially when it's this good!

Big portions, reasonably priced!

I had the squash and kale bowl and it was delicious! Warm and nice on a cold evening. Pretty big portion and only $9!
