one time visitor - Edit
I happened to be in town and heard this new vegan restaurant had just opened. I had the vegan dim sum and the vegan nachos. Both were delicious. For desert I had the lemon tart with cashew cream and raspberry coulis. All was yummy and in a beautiful setting. Next time I visit Connecticut, I will be eating there as often as possible.

Permanently closed in April 2022 - Edit
This place was fantastic (if expensive), but it closed in April 2022. They’re opening a new place up in Hartford, but it’s not open yet as of June 2022.

Super expensive and small portions. Three Girls Creamy is way better. - Edit
The feisty noodles are the only thing I would buy again/recommend for the price to size ratio. They were good.
Read moreI understand it’s made from scratch, but I feel like they price things high because they have celebrity status in the east coast vegan world.
Ruben sandwich was tiny and boring. My local natural store New Morning Market makes a Vegan BLT that is $6.99. It has more toppings than Gzens Ruben and tastes way better. Three Girls Vegan makes a ruben too and its amazing and filling!
They need to increase portion size for those prices. I don’t recommend them unless money means nothing to you. I’d rather cook at home...or drive to Guilford for Three Girls Vegan.

G-Zen for Dinner - Edit
Although I had ordered from the G Monkey food truck before this was my first time at G Zen in Branford and it was a wonderful experience! Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable, the dining room was comfortable and fun and the food was fantastic. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer which was not quite what we were expecting but still delicious! For dinner I ordered the perogies which were perfectly cooked and served with delicious house made sour cream and sauteed spinach. My fiance got the creole tempeh and was very satisfied. The corn bread was the best corn bread I have ever tasted. We will definitely be back!

Restaurant Meal Correctness and Service Quality Trending Downwards - Edit
The 2 stars are for the quality service of 2 employees. G-Zen was my favorite restaurant for years. I went for my birthday every year. The restaurant has disappointingly gone downhill over the last 1-1.5 years. I believe it is because the new wait and kitchen staff are improperly trained and supervised. My order had been coming out wrong more and it is no longer worth the 1-hour drive for takeout. There is lackluster communication between the kitchen and wait staff. I did not mind the price of the meals--the ingredients are high quality--when my order was correct, but it is not any longer.
Read moreI reached out the owner via email twice about my concerns and she was initially very defensive before only offering me a gift card. The quotations are from my email conversation with her. My criticism was constructive, but she almost put the blame on the customer stating that "Although we do make mistakes I can tell you - we get way more praise then complaints and for this we are thankful." She expressed that G-Zen receives little criticism twice, invalidating my experience. She even emailed to me a positive review of the restaurant. After that she said, "Jessica I don't mean to belittle your experience. Simply illustrating that it is not common at GZEN to have unhappy customers." The number of complaints should be irrelevant, as there is always room for improvement. I know that the food is good when it is correct, as G-Zen was my favorite place to eat.
Additionally, I have always made substitutions on my order, which the 2 servers were always very kind about, but the owner blamed that for the errors stating, "Especially when there's been a lot of modifications - like no dressing - no salt. extra things on the side no salt etc." She recommended that the customer check their order before leaving. We nearly always did this given the 1-hour drive, but one of the staff members on that night assured us that she had checked it. Alas, my order was still wrong. The customer should not have to worry about checking each to-go box of his/her meal before leaving a restaurant.
The restaurant and the owner's response were both immensely disappointing and I will not be returning.
Pros: Ingredient Quality, 2-3 quality staff members, Indoor decorations
Cons: Owner's response to criticism, Orders coming out wrong and other staff competence, Price (for incorrect orders)

Great food! - Edit
I tried this place with my boyfriend about a month and we loved it. I got the crabbie patty with the sweet potato fries and it was delicious! My boyfriend tried the brunch special of the lemon poppyseed pancakes. He loved them and he's not even vegan. We would definitely be going there again.

My #1 Vegan Restaurant in CT - Edit
Gzen hands down has the best vegan food in CT. The food is organic, creative, insanely tasty, and much of it is grown in a local farm owned by the owners. The staff are so friendly and attentive, some of the best service i’ve ever had. This is a great spot for a date night or celebration as the prices are high. Expect to spend 20-30$ per plate. The decor of the restaurant is immaculate and so warm and welcoming.

Great nachos! - Edit
This was the first vegan restaurant that I ever went to. It started off slow, I think the waiter forgot about us so we were sitting and waiting for about a half an hour before someone began waiting on us. However, the nachos made up for that. They were amazing.

One of the BEST restaurants ever! - Edit
I was staying in Branford and happy to see a nearby vegan restaurant. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was so nice and the staff was very friendly! I could not have asked for anything better! I ordered the raw tacos which were amazing and the burritos to go. I also ordered the miso soup with their homemade bread and delicious spread that came with it. I couldn’t skip the cacao avocado dessert which was so creamy and delicious! I had enough food for the next 2 days! Great portion sizes. I would come back to Branford just to go back to G-Zen!

I enjoy the food here enough to make the 45 minute drive. Foodies delight, many subtle flavors and textures in each plate. You can feel the connection to the earth, and the care for people, animals & planet that goes into each dish. Love ya’ll G-Zen, keep the delicious, healing meals coming!!

Best Vegan in CT - Edit
My husband and I eat here often. The chef is extremely talented and creative. The regular menu is extensive and all excellent but there are also specials every week that are always awesome. They also have the best vegan desserts I have ever had even in big cities like NYC, Boston, Seattle, and CA. Plus the servers are very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
