Best food in town - Edit

I went here literally every single day during my five days in San Pedro. The food is absolutely amazing (my omni friends loved it too) and I will be recommending it to everyone I meet. Quite easy to find - just look for the sign after Hostel Fe.

Best vegan pizza with a beautiful view!! - Edit

I went here twice and had the vegan pizza and the tempeh salad! The vegan pizza with fresh sliced avocados was bomb! Nice crust and soft tasty filling! The tempeh salad was amazing as well! I really recommend this place for lunch with a good book or just enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Atitlan

Pros: vegan options , the location with the view , atmosphere and staff

Pretty close to perfect - Edit

If you're a vegetarian visiting the lake, head to San Pedro where there are more than a few options. We heard about Fifth Dimension while refueling at Mayachik in San Juan, and we tuk-tukked over from San Juan to check it out.

So many options, hard to decide what to get. My veggie burrito was outstanding and enormous, the accompanying slaw unusual but also good, prices were moderate, and we felt really smart for having had the good sense to give it a try as we were staying across the lake in Pana.

But that's not all. On the upstairs deck, the view of the lake is spectacular. Note that the street is lined with eateries that also look out on the lake, so not unique to Fifth Dimension, but getting to sit there and soak up the view just made lunch that much better.

Pros: The view!, Outstanding veggie options, Huge portions

Home Cafe & Tea House San Pedro - Edit

We loved this place. Great food, atmosphere, music and people. It used to be called Cafe Home but they merged with the other Vegetarian restaurnt and they now cal the place Fifth Dimension.

I believe it's the only Vegetarian restaurant in San Pedro and the food was really delicious - they have quite a few vegan options too. The Pizzas are amazing and very decent size. Tey their Tandoori marinated Tempeh - it's a soy protein that is super delicious.
The staff were really friendly and attentive and let us hang out all afternoon in the really cute garden they have - I didn't wanna move form the hammock!

They were open for breakfast and lunches when we were there - usually closing in the latter part of the afternoon.
They have nice things for dessert - including gluten-free and vegan options - with a good selection of teas and organic coffee.

It's now easier to find in it's latest location- you come off the boat from the Panajachel dock.and take the first right. Follow that road and it's just after Hostel Fe on your left. You'll see their logo hanging with a "5". You go up a narrow concrete path (away from the lake) and up a few steps to the doorway.

amazing - Edit

I seriously can not get enough of this place. I tried their two vegan pizzas which were delicious as well as their veggie burrito (vegan, made with their special "fake meat"). The burrito was my absolute favourite, I went back several times just for this dish. If you're in San Pedro, do not miss this amazing restaurant!

Pros: delicious , friendly staff

Cons: a little bit pricey.

Great food! - Edit

We had the vegan tandoori tempeh pizza and the eggplant lasagne (special that day) and it was truly amazing! Lovely guy from Ireland runs the place. Best vegan food we've had on our trip so far. Also the diaries with comments/thoughts from fellow travelers are a fun read.

Pros: great vegan food, good location

Cons: closes pretty early

Friendly, delicious, adventurous - Edit

This is a gem on Lake Atitlan. Always a friendly welcome, great, varied and reasonably priced tasty food and drinks. We just had the tempeh stir fry, which was totally delicious. The peanut based 'veggie meat' burritos are a favourite. There is a wide range of drinks, from homemade lemonade with orange and mint, to homemade kombucha and kefir. Their Eco-credentials are impeccable - no plastic straws, water refills, so you can enjoy great food, with wonderful views of the Lake with a clear conscience. Go there!

Pros: Friendly staff, Great food, Nice vibe

Moved! New Locatin. - Edit

This resturant has moved and joined with my other fave 5th Dimention. Take a right after the boat dock, pass Hotel Fe and there up on the left with a nice balcony. Most everything is still on the menu and added to what 5th Dimention already had. Wierd hours though.

Pros: Vegan and vegetarian options., Nice view of the lake., Two restuarants merged into one, it seems.

Cons: Kind of hard to find., Odd hours.

tasty creative dishes - Edit

Love this restaurant. They have expanded their menu and now serve home cafe's stir frys, curries and chillis among other dishes. The vegan flatbread pizzas are to die for! The setting is a comfy garden with great views. The tandori tempeh is defo my favorite - bursting with flavour.

Pros: delicious home cooked food, beautiful setting, friendly staff

Relaxing! - Edit

It is quite expensive for San Pedro standards, but normal for European standards. If you're on a budget, I'd recommend just coming here for dessert - the food was nice, but not the best in San Pedro - that said, I only tried one dish, so I can't really judge.

Pros: Vegan desserts!!!, Really relaxing atmosphere

Cons: Expensive

Amazing vegan food! - Edit

I had a (very large) burrito that they filled with the most amazing stuff, including a fake meat that they made themselves, and the accompanying salad was huuuuge! There was also a genuine salsa verde, but less spicy than the original - so less chilli I'm guessing! I just wish I'd found it earlier - I'll be back when I go back to Guatemala! It's just on the main street, past the dock, and just past Hostel Fe!

Pros: Heeeeaps of vegan options, Affordable, Huge portions :)

Nice, higher end (for San Pedro) - Edit

Beautiful spot in a garden, with a nice menu focusing on healthy, fresh, organic, veg. They had soy/almond options for drinks, most stuff is/can be made vegan - ranging from breakfast to sandwiches, to dinner. Had tofu as well.

Great vegan deserts - Mango Cinnamon pie that was delicious. Peanut butter bars, cookies and more.

It's pretty pricey for San Pedro, but still very affordable by US or European standards.

Amazing little spot - Edit

First thing's first, this is a one-man show and everything is slow-cooked and made by hand. It may be worth it to call ahead to place your order, or to stop in and order and then go walk around and come back when the food is ready. A little patience goes a long way here, but it's worth the effort.

I really think it's fantastic spot and am thrilled to have it as an option. The vegan pot pies are divine, there are great, creative smoothies(!), the spot is comfortable and beautiful with awesome lake views, good music, and the owner is a very nice guy. The house green salsa is superb and the burritos and pizzas are delicious. Lots of vegan options and a sweet cat named Mish.

Go support this place if you're in San Pedro! It's a bit out of the way but not hard to find at all. Remember that it closes pretty early most days (around 4:30), but is open late on Sundays for movie night. Don't miss it.

Pros: great home-style veggie food, nice atmosphere, friendly owner

Cons: somewhat limited selection, not open most evenings

Disappointing - Edit

Two of my measurements for veg restaurants are whether they have good vegan options and whether they have the items on their menu. The Fifth Dimension did not do well.

As soon as we sat down they warned us they were out of avocado. Really? In Guatemala? Then when I asked about the veggie burger, I was told it could not be made vegan. Strike two. Oh, and they were out of ginger beer--strike 2.5. Strike three was having to wait 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered.

To their credit, they have a vegan pizza on the menu--not easy to find in Guatemala. Though it was tasty, the toppings were sparse. It was more like an appetizer than a meal.

My husband had the veggie burger. It came with a nice carrot/beet salad. The burger itself was not only not the best veggie burger in the world (as they claim), it wasn't even the best at Lake Atitlan.

We both left feeling frustrated and still hungry. We might have ordered something else, but we were already late.

The place has potential and with some attention to detail it could be a much better experience.

Pros: One of the few veg resterauants in Guatemala, Good salad, Cute cat in the yard

Cons: Sloooooow, We left hungry and frustrated

enRoute 27 Oct 2014 - Hope you give this place another chance, I think the owner is working really hard to get it right. Try the vegan pot pie! Funny about the avocados, to be honest I've had this experience in many restaurants and thought the same thing. I bet that if you go back, you'll have a better experience. Really rooting for him to succeed here!

Best Vegetarian Breakfast in San Pedro - Edit

Cafe Home is the best option for a vegetarian breakfast in San Pedro. The whole-wheat, sesame, flax and pumpkin seed pancakes are a delicious treat and can be made vegan. They also have a sensitive tummy menu that is great for anyone with a case of travelers stomach. Seating is all outdoors in a lovely garden. After my first breakfast here, we went back every day that we were in San Pedro.

Pros: Best Pancakes in Central America, Sensitive Tummy Menu, Vegan Options

Best Veggie Burger in the World - Edit

This bold statement was one of the items on this menu. This is what I had for lunch when I visited (they close at 5pm).
It was very good but since I have not eaten every veggie burger in the world I am unsure whether they are.
It was delicious though and it was missing one of its usual ingredients (Garlic Aioli) which I think would have made it even more so.
If you think you know your way around veggie burgers - try it out and post what you think.

Pros: Good food, Good Price, Very nice atmosphere

Cons: Missing Garlic Aioli the day I was there

Unbelievable to find a mostly vegan place here... - Edit

This is a small outdoor restaurant that serves breakfasts and set lunches. The food is wholesome and made fresh. Nearly all vegan (some dairy - goat cheese & kefir - is available). Beautiful garden with hammocks, etc. that appears to be a hangout/refuge for wanderers and seekers. The open journals that circulate around the tables are a neat feature of the place. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Not that easy to find, but the village is pretty small as well. The owner is Irish/Australian who has settled in San Pedro.

Great place in San Pedro - Edit

I've eaten at the restaurants on either side of Home (Clover and the Buddha Bar) but didn't even realize this place was here until a guest suggested we go here (I have a vegan guest house on Lake Atitlan).

The atmosphere is very nice and relaxing. Their herb flavored rosa de jamaica is some of the best I've ever had.

Home offers daily lunch specials. The day we were there, the specials were hummus on bread with salad and a veggie chili with garlic mashed potatoes. To my delight, both were vegan.

I opted for the chili, which was outstanding. My dining companions had the hummus plus a salad with goat cheese. Everyone was happy with their meal.

I tried one of the gluten free, vegan cookies. The flavor was nice, but it was too dry and crumbly for my taste.

Overall, a great experience.

Pros: Excelllent food, Nice vibe, friendly staff
