A must visit for delicious vegan food and the resident street dogs - Edit
I came here for lunch in the afternoon only to find it closed. I called the number and informed that it would open in an hour as they were short staffed. No problem. I waited and am so glad that I did! It was Brigitte the owner whom I had spoken to and who opened the cafe. Great location as it looks onto the beach. The completely vegan plant based menu had so many delicious choices but deferred to Brigitte as she recommended the chickpea/ veggie salad with seeds. I decided to start with an iced date latte with oat milk. OMG! So tasty and no sugar needed. The salad was freshly prepared and delicious with side of homemade hearty millet bread. Made room for dessert: apple crumble cake made with millet. Brigitte explained how she uses millet in most dishes as hearty and good for digestion. No white flour used.

Had a lovely chat with the owner how she has been in Varkala for 34 years running her business, how she stays for the dogs and tries to educate the locals about kind treatment of dogs. Saw a local woman use her stick to shoo/almost hit the dogs and Brigitte came out to tell her to stop. She is a passionate dog lover who prepares her delicious, healthy food with care and love.

Nice Fully Vegan Beach-Front Cafe - Edit
I had a nice iced latte and a big slice of banana bread whilst watching the waves a few dozen metres away. They had a choice of coconut or oat milk and were out of almond milk.
Read moreThe other day I came to try and get a chickpea salad, but they were out of avocado. Seems that avocado is by seasonal availability only and I picked the wrong season haha. Not a problem, but something to keep in mind depending on when you are here.
I ended up having scrambled tofu toast instead. The tofu scramble was tasty but the toast part was two really thick slices of more of a millet-type flour, so it was really dry. The tofu scramble wasn't on top of the toast but to the side, and I think the toast to tofu ratio was a bit too heavily skewed to the thick dry toast side... I think maybe some kind of spread, or more tofu, or thinner slices of toast would have helped balance it out a bit more.
The place has good WiFi. The staff are welcoming and attentive. And the setting on the beach front is so far second to none!
Pros: Right on the beach front , Friendly staff, Cute place
Cons: Limited menu choices due to seasonality, Underwhelmed by the scrambled tofu toast

After weeks of hard travel and having only Indian Cuisine I was happy eating here.

The restaurant is clean and pretty, in front of the beach, we had very good Indian food. The owner is so nice and friendly, the staff gave us a great service. Can't wait to come back again!
