Amazing Vegan Food! - Edit

The vegan options here are truly amazing!! I would rate the food five stars. The service on the other hand, is not so great, I would give about two stars which is why I settled on three. I always go back though, because the food is really that good!

good food, awful service - Edit

If I could rate the food and service separately, I’d give the food four stars, and the service half a star. I lived in Athens 6 years and ate at Casa many times. The majority of those times, my appetizer was forgotten and/or there was an hour wait to be seated when the dining room was not even close to full. Once, I ordered a vegan quesadilla and was brought a chicken quesadilla with dairy cheese. When pointing this out to my server, she insisted what she gave me was vegan.. I had to point directly at the piece of chicken hanging out of the quesadilla to prove to her she was mistaken. My vegan quesadilla came out 20 minutes later, and they expected me to pay my bill in full. I like the concept of no tipping, but perhaps if there were tips involved, the staff would try a little harder. Anyway, onto the food: they have several vegan options on both the regular and brunch menu, which is awesome. They have lots of locally sourced ingredients, which is also awesome. I always come back for the food, not the service.

Pros: vegan options, local ingredients

Cons: terrible service, long waits

Vegan Burrito Heaven - Edit

Found this place on the app during a college visit to Ohio University (it was recommended by our tour guide as well). The atmosphere is extremely laid back and eclectic. The Vegan Burrito was amazing (I posted a picture of the burrito on here also as it was picture worthy)! My daughter and husband who are not vegan or vegetarian enjoyed their food also. If my daughter decides to go to OU for school we will eat here again I'm sure. My only complaint was that they were super busy when we got there so we waited 40 mins to be seated and then it was another 35 mins for our food to come out. We had chips and guac to tide us over but it was a long wait for food after having walked around a college campus for 2 hours. But that was not their fault and they were upfront about the wait time. There are several other vegan options on the menu and tons of vegetarian choices as well! Yum!

Pros: Several Vegan options and Tons of vegetarian optio

Cons: If its a peak time the wait could be long.

Quaint - Edit

Nice service, with plenty of vegan options. The vegan enchilada platter was amazing. Even the side salad that came with it was delicious; try the sesame soy dressing.

Definitely a favorite - Edit

Casa Nueva is a go to if you're visiting Athens. Every time I'm in town I end up eating there at least twice! They have different breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and all of which are amazing and changing with the seasons. All of their food is local and a part of the 30 mile meal program.

**NOTICE** Their bloody mary drink is not vegetarian.

Pros: Vegan Friendly, vegan cheese, Good drinks

Cons: loud

Surprised to find great vegan spot in small town - Edit

Casa Nueva is definitely the place to go if you're vegan in Athens. Solid, creative vegan food with rotating specialty sauces and salsa. I also recommend the Athens Mule if you like ginger.

Very yummy for a weekend brunch - Edit

We used to go here on weekends for brunch all the time. They have several vegan options and use mostly local ingredients. I always love the veg burrito. Recommend going early because it does fill up. Also a good bar to go to on the weekends. They usually have decent bands playing and good drinks.

Pros: Delicious, Great Staff

Cons: Crowded on Weekends, Noisy

Stayed Overnight and Ate There Twice!! - Edit

Absolutely love that this joint is worker-owned. Not to mention the tasty and affordable vegan options. Portions are huge! I enjoyed chips, microbrews and a chimi for dinner and an amazing coffee, breakfast burrito for breakfast. Be thoroughly prepared to wait if you get there on weekend night but there is plenty of room in the cantina where you can enjoy drinks and snacks while you wait. There is live entertainment and a bustling crowd. This restaurant is in a college town but the patrons vary in age/ethnicity.

There were two totally different vibes during my visits. The night was fun/bustling and the morning totally serene. We were able to sit by the window as we enjoyed our breakfast. I loved gazing out at the world as it came alive while drinking a great cup of coffee, munching on amazing homefries, reading the paper and conversing.

It's near Wayne National Forest if you're looking for a free camp spot after a yummy meal.

Pros: Worker-Owned, Lots of Vegan Options, Huge Drink Selection (Alcoholic and Non)

Cons: Not 100% Vegan

Casa Nueva Rocks! - Edit

My husband and I have patronized Casa for more than ten years. It's one of our favorite places. The food is great. Try the hills deluxe (beans and rice served toppes with crunchy green lettuce and two different types of their in-house awesome salsa. It's also served with one of their yummy wheat tortillas. The vegan burrito is great and usually stuffed with beans, rice and the veggie of the day. There is a huge vegetarian selection and a very decent vegan selection. The salsa (they even have different seasonal paw paw salsa) is truly great. So great that they have put it in a jar and sells in regional grocery srores. YUM! We've never had a bad meal, but sometimes the service is s-l-o-w. But hey, I can deal with that from a gem of a place like Casa Nueva. It's also worth mentioning that they use as many local ingredients as possible (i.e. paw paws) and the organic selection is great.

Pros: great food, cozy atmosphere, fresh, organic ingredients

Cons: slow service
