Some Good Fruit...

...But not a lot else to get excited about. It's a smaller store, so the prices are very high, as you might expect. The bulk area usually looks like a wreck. I actually had a staff member tell me recently that the deli food makes her sick! (I don't think someone working there would lie about that...) And I've often found that things I've pulled off the shelf are past their best-by date.

So unless you live nearby, and it's convenient, I personally can't see any reason for anyone to seek out Capella. It's not an open sewer of a store or anything...Just another neighborhood store with pretensions. If they focused on the basics, and catered more to an identifiable market (any market) they'd probably do better. But the Fuji apples and cherry tomatoes are usually very good. Go, produce!

Pros: Not a chain supermarket, Locally owned, Some good produce

Cons: Prices are high, Store can be dirty, Lots of past-date foods/stale bulk items

Overpriced, Bulk food is awful.

Overpriced, the deli food is tasteless and awful. Not to mention cross contaminated with some disgusting flesh practically touching everything. Meat smell all over the deli. [edit by staff] They do have a decent deal on their Columbia Gorge juices sometimes.

Pros: Decent sale items, but rare

Cons: Price, Prepared Food

We like Capella

Capella is a very nice market. It is spacious. They have a nice deli that is separate from the meat deli, etc. The meat never smells bad, as it does at other stores. They have a lot of things at better prices than other HF stores, but the produce is hit or miss. The brussels had bugs on a few occasions, and the mushrooms they have in bags and they were moldy. Much of the produce is more expensive than other places down the road (avos for one). But all in all, we like going here, enjoy the staff, and enjoy singing around the produce section (the tell tale test). Good place.

Pros: Staff , most of produce, clean and roomy

Cons: meat, brussels/mushrooms
