Cafe Bask is a charming all-vegan cafe a few minutes’ walk from Ogikubo station. The space is small but clean and cosy.
We chose the plate special of the day. You can choose a main dish, and it also comes with a few sides, rice, and soup. At 1500 yen it’s a little pricey, but I enjoyed every bite. Every little dish was delicious.
For dessert we had wanted the pound cake, but they were sold out, so we reluctantly got the mango and lemon muffin. It turns out we needn’t have been disappointed, as the muffin was delicious and generously sized.
We really enjoyed our meal here, and we think you will too.

Grateful dinner guest - Edit
My friend and I got lost in Ogikubo, in the pouring rain, so we were very grateful to find this place open and serving. The google maps directions were strange, so double check with reality.
Read moreThe food was good. In fact, the garlic toast side was the best bread I have had in Japan. The place was nearly empty when we got there, early evening on a holiday. There were a few things sold out, but we enjoyed our meal. The English menu was adequate and the server tried her best to communicate when we had questions.

Delicious cakes - Edit
I just tried two of Cafe bask's cakes: the walnut and banana chocolate pounder and the apple and kaki muffin. Both were beautifully presented, rather cheap (500 yens, eat-in) and delicious! Not too many choices for cakes though -- only these two. The lunch menu looked great and creative, will try soon!

Another great local option! - Edit
Cool little spot off the main intersection in Ogikubo. We went there for dinner as a party of 4 (2 vegan; 2 not) and everyone one was very happy with the food/drinks. We ordered a variety of items (a mix of cuisines) and shared - everything was fresh, delicious, and well-presented. The dinner menu has much more variety than lunch, which had two options (lunch sets). English menu available.

Everything was good until... - Edit
At the time I went they were still in the process of creating an English menu (I think one is available now), but the server was very helpful and did his best to explain menu items to me in a way I could understand. I bought a dinner set and a blueberry muffin, all of which tasted really good! What turned my experience sour was when...The server dishonestly took ¥2900 from me. Seriously?! I told him that as a foreigner I was bad with Japanese money and it was clear that my language abilities were limited. I often tell servers this and ask them to be patient with me as I count my money to give them. At every other restaurant/cafe in Japan I've been to, servers have always been kind and have helped me manage my money. However the server here took advantage of it. My meal dessert cost a little over ¥2100, I paid with a ¥5000 bill and some coins, and he gave me back ¥5...I suppose it could've been a mistake on his part, but you've gotta admit that that's a pretty big mistake to make... I won't be coming back here again. It's a shame, because everything about the cafe would've been perfect if this money incident didn't happen.

Delicious vegan and organic food - Edit
Cafe Bask is easy to find, just a few minutes and a straight road from Ogikubo station on the Sobu, Chuo, Maranouchi and Tozai lines.
Read moreThe place feels relaxed and the hosts are welcoming. They were playing chilled music, and everything was really clean. I went at 4pm and wasn't too late for lunch (food seems to be served all day, until they close at 23:30). I got the lunch set, which consisted of crispy fried tofu, rice, miso and a few salad side dishes. I also got a muffin and scone to take out. All of it was fresh and delicious. They do deli lunchboxes, and lots of desserts, too.
Pros: Tasty, fresh food , Fast and friendly service , Outdoor space
