Serves meat, vegan options available. Burmese restaurant with labeled vegan dishes including salads, soups, curries and noodles. Est 2010. Reported closed April 2024.
One of the top Burmese restaurants in the Bay - Edit
If you're looking for an alternative to Mandalay, Burma Cafe just south of San Francisco in Daly City is the perfect place for you. I was introduced to this restaurant several years ago and I'm glad to share this find with other friends years and years later.
The menu has been upgraded with more vegan or vegan friendly options that are clearly marked. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable and accommodating. Everything here is excellent with just the right balance of spices and flavors. Personal favorites include the samusa soup and veggie noodles.
The best Burmese in the bay - go ahead and @ me - is this elegant restaurant tucked into a strip mall in Daly City. More than half of their menu is vegan or vegetarian, and their staff is sweet and friendly and conscious of dietary needs.
Favorites: tea leaf salad - savory, crunchy, sour, salty; if I had to pick a last meal, this might be it. Samusa soup is warm and comforting. The house special noodles with tofu. The okra egg curry (eggs are optional). Ginger salad, sweet and sour and refreshing. Burmese food has lively combinations of flavors and textures and this place gets it all right.
The first review here recommends reservations, but I've never needed them - if you're hungry *now,* don't let that stop you!
