Lots of vegan options - Edit
It took me a while to make it here as Reno also has a delicious all-vegan Mexican place, but anywhere offing veg options and participating in the Vegan Chef Challenge is worth a trip.
Read moreBuenos Grill didn't disappoint. Lots of clearly marked vegan options including rice/beans, no worries about things like hidden chicken stock here. I also really like that they have tofu, TVP and just-vegetable choices for variety, and that they don't use any of the weird ultraprocessed veg proteins like Impossible. Food was really good. Not mindblowingly amazing, but good food done right.
Another reviewer noted the surrounding location is bougie, but the restaurant doesn't feel that way at all. It's casual, counter-service, quite inexpensive, has lots of comfy outdoor seating, and the owner and staff are super nice and welcoming. Locally owned and has been here ages (though the vegan options are new the last few years).
Pros: Multiple tofu, TVP and just veg vegan options, Super-nice, welcoming service, Outdoor seating
Cons: Closes early-ish

Great options, nice staff - Edit
I love the crunchy coconut tofu and the tvp street tacos. And they always have a vegan lemon sugar cookie, which is a nice add-on. The staff is knowledgeable about vegan options, and recently they even added a dedicated vegan menu to help fobd things you can modify (see my pictures).
Read moreAs a healthy option, they're also trying out baked chips as an oul free alternative to fried, but I imagine its difficult to keep fresh when not too many are buying them, so they didn't have any when I went in.

Meh - Edit
Had the crunchy coconut tofu entree. The tofu was good, the beans and rice were very bland. Several vegan options but I would not recommend if you’re a fan of authentic mexcan food.

Bland food, but better options as of May 2025 - Edit
Original review: Both my non-vegan and vegan friends found the food to be really bland and uninteresting.
Read moreUpdate: I really enjoyed the vegan options they offered for the vegan restaurant challenge in May 2025, which they are adding to the menu, and will return for the vegan tostada and chilaquiles.

Taqueria Upscaled - Edit
This local owned taqueria in caughlin ranch (bougie) has been operating a counter service taqueria joint for over 25 years. They offer reasonable prices, fresh food, friendly service, plenty of seating, and a whole menu of vegan options as the business went vegan aware a couple of years ago

Vegan Coconut Tofu is Amazing! - Edit
My daughter and I tried this restaurant during the 2023 Reno Vegan Chef Challenge! Mexican food is always tricky for vegans as lard and chicken broth can be commonly used in rice and beans and sometimes even tortilla chips. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they already had a lot of additional vegan items on the menu too. The Coconut Crunchy Tofu was AMAZING - crispy on the outside and very light and fluffy on the inside and the dipping sauce was really yummy too. I also enjoyed the Baja Cauli Taco and found it really tasty - even my daughter who does not normally like cauliflower liked this dish. I've heard all of these new items are staying on the menu permanently, so I plan to go back and try some different vegan options next time I'm in that part of town.

As advertised but not the most complex - Edit
I ordered the vegan enchiladas, which are black bean and sweet potato in red enchilada sauce and Spanish rice on the side. There weren’t very complex spicing and flavors here, basically the components were cooked and baked and that’s that, whereas I prefer to have more seasoning in my food. The Spanish rice had a kind of sweet aftertaste that I haven’t encountered before in Spanish rice and was kind of plump. It’s not the Spanish rice you’ll typically get from an authentic Mexican place.
Read moreI’ll give them a shot again but I would not reorder the enchiladas, maybe I’d try what the other reviews recommend. So in summary: a bit bland and not what I hoped, but still a decent vegan meal I didn’t have to cook myself and we all know how nice that can be 👍

Thank you! Our Mexican rice is vegan and made in house with long grain white rice, veggie broth and spices.

Crispy Coconut Tofu Taco - Edit
The crispy coconut tofu taco was pretty tasty overall. Coconut gave it some sweetness. HUGE tofu pieces.
Read moreThe spicy tofu was lacking. Pretty bland. Not spicy at all. I would eat the crispy coconut again if I had to though.
Pros: Vegan options, HUGE tofu pieces
Cons: Spicy tofu was bland

Thank you for your review. We’ve added a vegan chipotle crema that is a flavorful substitution on the spice rubbed tofu taco or burrito.

Decent Mexican spot with vegetarian and vegan options - Edit
I used to go to this place a long time ago before I was vegan. Since breaking free from my upbringing and becoming vegan a year ago I've noticed not too many places in Reno were vegan friendly. Recently, I looked at Buenos' menu again and they had added multiple vegan and vegetarian options for both lunch/dinner and breakfast! I tried the spiced tofu burrito and the veggie burrito. The veggies were great, it's got fajita style mushrooms, onion, bell peppers, and eggplant. The staff even asked when I called to order if I wanted it vegan meaning no cream sauce or butter used to cook anything. For a place that isn't (and wasn't in the past) vegan focused, they do a good job and food tastes great. Hope to see them continue to move in the right direction and move towards a full vegan menu someday. Recommend trying it out.
