Good Vegan Options - Edit
This bakery is only open one day of the week, Saturday, from 11 am until 5 pm. The first time we went there, it was around 1 pm and other than the big loaves of bread, there was only one vegan option - a tiny plain bagel. It turns out, it is best to order ahead of time, and we could see the many trays of preordered items waiting to be picked up. But I was quite disappointed. We had taken an hour trip and ended up buying nothing.
Read moreSo, a couple of weeks later, I preordered an olive focaccia, a marron glace almond bagel, a black bean pink pepper bagel, a vegan sandwich, and a vegan soup - pumpkin soy milk pottage with grilled vegetables. Preorders start Wednesday afternoon. We arrived and went to the cash register to pick up our food. The soup comes with four slices of bread, but even though the order item is labeled as vegan, one of the slices of bread is not. We asked, as we always do in a non-vegan place, so the staff was able to substitute it for another. But be careful, as there is no indication otherwise that not all the soup bread is vegan.
We picked up our food and went to sit by the river. The vegan sandwich was lovely, with marinated tofu and vegetables. I really enjoyed the olive focaccia as well. I did find the bagels a little lacking in flavor, and the soup, while really good, was just way too small. I'm sure they use really good quality ingredients, but overall I found it to be a bit too expensive for the amount of food.
Edit: I also forgot to mention, I think they use too much plastic! I would like to see them go into a more eco-friendly direction.

finally some delicious normal priced vegan bread! - Edit
(If I could give 5* I would)
Read moreWhen I came in as a vegan they were very understanding and listened to my requests.
As I have become a regular they have started adding new vegan options on the menu, the lineup changes - best to reserve bread from the form on the website - they’ve split it into Vegan and non vegan section so very easy to understand.
Very quick to implement change and will respond to requests - I asked if they could make something with chocolate vegan and low and behold the next week a delicious cocoa nib and chestnut baton bread appeared on the lineup.
A perfect mix of gaijin bread (the chef trained for a while in Germany) such as sourdough and Japanese style bread like shokupan. The best bakery ever!
