gluten free Laksa! - Edit
Was missing Vietnamese food so came here one afternoon for something Asian. Gf options are limited but the laksa with rice noodles hit the spot. Would have preferred more veg but it tasted delicious!

A burst of flavour! - Edit
Aunty Mena’s is a vegan/vegetarian Malaysian eatery. There are so many choices - I had dumplings and laksa, and it was sooo good! Good, fresh ingredients and they know how to use the spices. This is a casual place, the interior not special or cosy, service is quick, good value.

Love it - Edit
Can't go wrong with Mena's. Cheap as chips, big portions, huuuge menu (a little overwhelming). My personal fave is the "pork" steamed buns. We lived in Wellington for 5 months and visited on a few occasions, it never disappointed.

delicious! - Edit
We ordered dumplings (pretty good), tum yum soup, and Laksa with veggie chicken and noodles (both delicious) we felt so good afterwards. The food was warm and spicy, and the service was friendly. Not a place to go if you are looking for a fine dining/cozy atmosphere, but such good food!

Very Good Food - Edit
The sign says vegetarian and vegan, but I was informed by the proprietor that all is vegan. Had some great dumplings followed by a pot of chrysathymum tea, which was excellent. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was excellent and service was spot on. Didn't have to wait long for my food and the servers were friendly. It's located in a very central and lively neighbourhood. Nice to know there are vegan options outside of Portland, OR.

Excellent noodles - Edit
I went here twice during my 4 day stay. The first time I was disappointed as I went for a tofu rice main. When I was served it the tofu was fried (which the menu didn't specify) and that sort of ruined it for me because I don't like tofu fried. The second time I went for the chow mee noodlw/mock chicken main and it was excellent.

Love this place - Edit
I've been meaning to try here as there is a frequent que to get a seat and that normally means it's a good place to eat. The staff are very friendly and so is the menu, very easy to read and choose giving you the popular choices highlighted with a smiley face. I had the curry noodle with the fake meat my husband had the laksa and both where amazing. We will be back for sure as everything on the menu is vegan. Love it and cheap too with big portions oh and the roti was yum filling and thicker than your normal roti which was great value for money. Again the staff where lovely it's warm and comfortable not fancy but hey it's all about the food at the end of the day!!

Spectacular - Edit
Vibrant Chinese/Malaysian restaurant. We started with amazing vegan drumsticks as entrees, followed by a wholesome chicken laksa and a filling Nasi Goreng (which was honestly more like a special fried rice, but still delicious). Well priced. The waiters were adorable.

just ok - Edit
I had great expectations about this place, but I was disappointed. Staff not particularly friendly, the place itself not very well maintained. Food was ok, but nothing remarkable. I had better vegan food in non-vegan (only vegan-friendly) restaurants in New Zealand.

I really enjoyed my laksa at this restaurant. Tofu, fried veggie balls, veggies in a coconut soup. Tasty and filling. Will go back next time I am in Wellington.

Disappointed - Edit
I was excited to try this place, which is one of only a couple of entirely vegan restaurants in Wellington and has had lots of excellent reviews here. We shared two starters (satay and a soup) and two mains (a tofu dish and a laksa). I enjoyed the satay but everything else was rather bland and flavourless. It felt as if the chefs simply removed the meat and fish from traditional Chinese and Malaysian recipes, without putting much thought into how to make them 'work' as vegan dishes.
Read moreI also wasn't a fan of the atmosphere. It is a nice spot for people-watching but we sat right next to the fridge, which the servers accessed frequently during our meal.
Pros: Large menu
Cons: Food lacks flavour, Busy atmosphere

Food amazing, service variable - Edit
I've been to Aunty Mena's quite a few times since it is just down the road from me. The food is great and good value, and it's a great vibe, but sometimes my meals have been entirely forgotten, causing service to be unnecessarily slow. But still love this place

There's more than Laksa! - Edit
I must admit that i stuck the the laksa the first 3 visits I had as it was extremely tasty..
Read moreIt seems very popular, but I can also now vouch for the curry noodles, and definitely the roti dish with potato/tofu curry.
So 2 more recommendations if you're worried about trying something new thinking it won't beat the laksa!
Pros: full of flavour, plenty of options, meat eaters love this place too

Yummy Laksa! - Edit
Laksa is divine, especially the veggie balls in it. My partner took fried rice, which was okay, but there was frozen veggies in it, which made it little bland.
