delicious & down to earth - Edit

In a city with countless veg options, Ataya tops my list of favourite neighbourhood places. Even if I didn't live in Prenzlauer Berg, I'd totally cross town to come here. It's a place I always recommend to friends, family, and visitors to Berlin.

The owners are super friendly, charming, and personal. When it's not super busy (like at weekend brunch) we always get to chat, and it's a treat! This is the kind of place that remembers you and welcomes you back. The staff and customers are down-to-earth and real. (If you're more interested in hipster points and hustle with fancy wifi, you're better off heading south!)

Ataya's fusion of Senegalese + Italian cooking styles is refreshingly different and intriguing. The dishes and desserts are original, tasty and passionately prepared. They've usually got specialities and treats from their homelands... things you don't find often. I've learnt a lot about both Italian and West African food and cooking.

Oh, It's also a relaxing setting to read, write, have little meetings, etc!

Best Vegan restaurant in Berlin! - Edit

This restaurant truly captures what vegan should be like. No fuss, No frills...just love in everything they do. Great atmosphere, relaxed seating, and cool music! Best of all is that it's family owned! They open their hearts and their kitchen to all that come. It's really a wonderful place to spend time either for incredible coffee or the fantastic Sunday brunch. You really can't go wrong.
The FLAVORS!!! Most vegan places, unfortunately, are lackluster at best when it come to flavor. I'm happy to report that is definitely NOT the case here! The owners are from Italy and African, both places with incredible culinary histories! What a combo!!! If you have one choice...ATAYACAFFE!!!

Pros: Flavorful food- big portions!, Atmosphere - Great music!, Outside seating with lovely garden!

Very rude customer service - Edit

This place was a huge disappointment for me. The internet was gone in my apartment so I searched online for a café with wifi and I found this place. Vegan and looks very cozy so my hopes were up. Then it turned out that their wifi is not working at the moment, but that wouldn't even be a problem in itself. I was about to meet with a friend of mine so I told the staff that I'll wait for her and I ordered a latte. My friend arrived and we were just about to go to another café where the wifi is working, but I was already getting hungry so I thought maybe I'll try one of their dishes. My friend only had money for one coffee and as we were about to go to another place she wanted to save her money for there so she didn't order here anything. And eventhough I already had a latte and I was just about spend another 10 euros on food (which I think is not so cheap by the way) the staff said if she doesn't order anything she has to leave. So instead of taking my order and possibly have a guest or two who will come back regularly they had us leave because of the price of one coffee and we will surely never return. I guess it was worth it... Also reading the answers to the bad reviews is quite shocking. I rarely see the owners' answers being written in such manner. They know little to none about how to treat guests. Also the latte was said to be 3 euros and written like that on two places on the wall and I got charged 3.50 eventually. The man asked me in the beginning which milk do I want and I chose oat milk but he never said and it wasn't written anywhere that it costs extra. All the possibilities are vegan so I didn't know that any of them will cost more than the other. But at that point I really didn't care anymore we just wanted to leave.

We’re sorry you had a negative experience at our café. Unfortunately, when you arrived we were experiencing difficulty with our Wi-Fi. As a boutique vegan restaurant, we depend on our patrons to support us as we work to deliver high quality food to the Berlin community. Our prices are clearly stated, and we ask that our visitors respect us and other patrons by recognizing that we are, in fact, a restaurant and not a co-working space. We hope you will visit again in the future and we look forward to the opportunity to make your time with us as special as we can!

Totalmente recomendable.

Delicious food and great atmosphere - Edit

Delicious food and a warm and cozy atmosphere. The owners were very friendly, and I loved the fusion of Italian and Senegalese cuisine, which is a combination that I don't think I've seen anywhere else. I highly recommend the Sunday brunch (book ahead, because it fills up quickly). I visited Berlin over Christmas and was very happy to find that, unlike most other places, Ataya Caffe was open even on Christmas Eve!

Pros: Interesting mix of Mediterranean and African, Friendly owners, Open even on Christmas Eve

Cons: Offers cow's milk in drinks, so not totally vegan

My #1 Favorite Vegan Cafe in Berlin!! - Edit

I LOVE ATAYACAFFÉ and cannot recommend it highly enough! The food, like the café itself, is sophisticated without being pretentious and is deeply comforting. Over the last week I’ve eaten at the café several times and each new dish is a wonder!! My first meal at Ataya was a hearty, warm bowl of luscious pumpkin-filled ravioli, smothered in a refreshingly light, savory red sauce and topped with fresh sprigs of arugula. The ravioli was paired with a perfect side salad, a large mug of expertly brewed chai tea, and the most amazing dark chocolate mousse I’ve ever tasted. The café owners, Liz and Bashir are deeply kind, engaging and work hard to create a relaxed atmosphere perfect for dates, meetings or solo meals. Run, don’t walk to AtayaCaffe! Your belly will thank you!

Pros: Delicious, Fresh Food, Atmosphere, Location

Top-quality food and Mediterranean vibes in Prenzlberg - Edit

Dropped by here for lunch the other day and had some of the best gnocchi I've ever tasted (served with fresh salad
and crispy Sardinian Casarau bread). The place is cosy and welcoming, with a mix of African and Sardinian décor that brought a whiff of (much needed) sun and sea into my day.
Hosts Betta and Bashir were friendly and open...
In short: perfect food in a perfect atmosphere. Looking forward to coming here again soon.

Pros: amazing food, positive vibes, friendly staff

My favourite vegan spot in Berlin - Edit

I am always in Berlin, the vegan capital of Europe, looking for food spots. Today I encountered cafe Ataya and went there for brunch and the whole experience was fantastic. We had a vegan brunch, which consisted of diverse fresh foods deliciously prepared and combined, with an Italian/African heart which just makes it above average in taste! Besides the great combinations and food choice, the place offers proper Italian coffee, a cozy living-room chill atmosphere and very kind and attentive hosts. I am so happy to have found this place, it is definitely my new favourite in Berlin. I can’t wait to join again for lunch, buffet Sunday brunch and much more - they have different events depending on the day. :)))))

Pros: Food, Location/ambiance, Coffee

Colourful, comfortable place to linger - Edit

I love this little cafe! Had the vegan gnocchi kartoffeln for lunch with a salad. It was like eating back in Tuscany again. DELICIOUS. I also brought a German friend here recently who has living in Berlin for years. We both had cappuccinos and after taking his first sip, he said, shocked, that it's one of the best cappuccinos he's ever had. I agree because the cappuccino is what I get every time I come here. Plus the colourful mismatched furniture and blankets and the jammin' Afro fusion jazz playing always puts me in a good mood. Then with great employees who speak English, German, Italian... You can't go wrong coming here!

Pros: Great food, Great coffee, Great vibes

Cons: Won't want to leave
