Great Croissants

Food was pretty good, especially the croissant. It was a bit difficult to find the restaurant and get into the building. The table next to us was having high tea which looked amazing, I would come back for that. Menu was fairly diverse for a cafe and well priced.

OK option in Riverdale

My sisters and I dined here for lunch. It is an extremely small space and can probably only accommodate 3-4 tables at a time. It is very difficult to find, with limited signage on Broadview. You have to buzz into the building, but the instructions are not totally accurate. While we were sitting, we watched many people struggle to buzz in. They appear to only have 1 printed menu for all patrons in the restaurant to share, which is difficult. I had the chickpea wrap with potatoes. The wrap was ok - really not much to write home about. Potatoes were good, but the sauce served with them was weirdly sweet and unappetizing. Ketchup was delish but I think it's the same ketchup that you can get anywhere. Service was pretty limited despite not having many tables and we couldn't find our server to pay at the end. Overall I would come here in a pinch but wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again. Price was right!

Great for brunch!

Brunch was lovely. Only a few tables to eat in though, it’s a small place. Great food and the staff are very friendly. Easily accommodated gluten free with options.

Pros: Gluten free substitutions , Best croissants , Great coffee

Unapologetically vegan

ALK is a small cafe on the second floor of a bright business space. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. I got the egg bennie croissant, which had a delicious hollandaise sauce. My partner got the gyro, which had a nice spice to it. While the food was wonderful, what I found most unique about ALK is the outward displays of activism throughout the cafe. While I appreciate all vegan restaurants/cafes/bakery, it was nice to see a vegan establishment be so outward with their values. Definitely a lovely place to support.

Pros: Vegan through and through!, Activism opportunities posted , Great food!

solid vegan spot

We tried a gyro and a jackfruit shawarma. Both were tasty. Menu options were limited. (Posting a photo of the menu from July 5, 2023)

Small portion

Very small portion for the price. Chocolate croissant wasn’t worth it either.

It seems to be the only vegan place in the area but if I can help it I probably won’t be back.

Pastries are incredible - the mains are good and some are exceptional

The pastries are incredible, I can't recommend them more. The orange pistachio croissant was just as good as pastries I've had in Europe. The chicken parm that I had was incredible. I have been looking for a good chicken parm since going vegan and the only one I've found was at Vegitaliano but now having tried ALK's parm, I have to say I think this is now my favourite.

Pros: Delicious/high quality, Affordable prices

Pretty good

I had a BLT via take-out, which I liked but I wasn't blown away. I had an excellent chocolate croissant. Would definitely like to go in person!

Pros: Great chocolate croissant

Not so great

Breakfast egg sandwich on croissant was pretty awful. The veggies on focaccia was good only because we directed the making of it! The server was very friendly but not very skilled.
On Friday we were told that tables were only set up on the weekends (it's in the lobby of an office building). We decided to come back but the Sunday server said tables were never set up. Since we were hungry we got food anyway and perched on a bench in the lobby to eat. Overall, not a great experience and we won't be back,

Unapologetically Vegan

One of my favourite restaurants in Toronto, this place is an absolute must for any vegan. The owner and her daughter are usually the one serving and preparing the meals and are super friendly. For those who care about aspects other than just the food, this is a family own business, who is run by an immigrant woman.
The restaurant is not only fully vegan but also filled with animal liberation stickers, patches and etc. So 11/10 for vegan activism.
You can also purchase some food items such as vegetable milks, cheeses, chocolate bars, and sauces to cook at home, and often they have cards and small vegan jewelry and other trinkets as well.
The food is beyond great, their croissants are simply divine! I can’t recommend their feta and cherry tomatoes sandwich enough.

Pros: fresh and flavourful , family business , eco conscious

Check they have food before going 🙃 Also no seats anymore

Worth checking on food delivery apps before making the trek out there as they only had croissants when we went (none of the fun fillings or actual meals). Also nowhere to sit, takeout only.

Staff were lovely but naturally can't comment on the food.

Review from Vegandale

I found Animal Liberation Kitchen's booth at the Vegandale festival and decided to give their almond croissant a try! It was the best vegan croissant I've ever had!! So flaky and fresh. Will definitely stop by their cafe to try more!! 🥐

Cute little spot

The employees are very nice and the food is yummy. I had trouble finding it as I was walking down the street. It looked like the entrance of an office building, I didn’t know there was a cafe in there. But once I got there it was great.

Delicious soup and wrap!

What a bright and airy space. Lovely owner, Tanya, had made a super delicious sweet potato and chickpea soup this day, and when I asked if I could have some toast, she kindly threw in a couple of pieces of St. John's sourdough bread, for free. I also bought a breakfast wrap which turned out to be something completely different when I opened it at home later. Juicy seitan, yellow peppers and lettuce and tons of flavour. A welcome surprise! I'll gladly go back to try the breakfast wrap, another day. I'd highly recommend this business. Go support vegan small business owners!

Come for the Jackfruit, stay for the conversation with Tanya!

What a wonderful place to hang out.
I found the newly re-located ALK on the 2nd floor at 100 Broadview.
The new location is warm and contemporary.
It's a great place to plug in your computer and hang out and let Tanya cook for you!
I've tried just about everything here and must say you won't find anything like it on the East Side, especially at affordable prices.
Hope you'll give it a try next time you are in the East End of Toronto.

Pros: Delicious, Affordable

Cons: not open on saturday!

Delicious - oh m' GAUH...

We ordered in so I can't speak for the atmosphere of the restaurant but I'm only half-way through my meal and everything so far is amazing! Mac n cheeZ... pulled jackfruit slider... Best! The Tropical smoothie is really great too - could add booze to it if you wanted a cocktail... Still have the avocado chick pea sandwich and Thai quinoa salad to go but I'm sure they're great too! ALK is a great Tdot vegan restaurant - and they deliver through uber-eats

Small with good message

Small space they should add another chair or two or maybe a small patio table outside. Small menu with a few options, but we had 2 of them and they were both yummy. I’d recommend the chickpea sandwich.
