Accommodates Vegans and Gluten-free.

I am vegan and dined at Cafe Paradiso with my mother, who is gluten-free. I notified the restaurant of our dietary restrictions in advance at the time of our reservation. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were friendly. A waiter walked us through the menu, highlighting what each of us could and couldn't have. They really seemed to "get" what being vegan and gluten-free meant, and took the time and effort to make sure we had options. We both ended up having the sweet chilli-glazed panfried tofu with choi, rice noodles, gingered tamarind coconut broth and shiitake fritters. It was absolutely divine, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cork and this restaurant. For dessert, they made us a special vegan, gluten-free apple and fig crumble with vegan ice cream, which was also delicious. Although pricey, this place is definitely one of the best culinary spots in town for veggies/vegans. I'll definitely be back throughout my stay in Cork.

Fantastic Atmosphere, Suitable for Vegans
13 Oct 2012
We had dinner at Stonechat after spending the day in Killarney. I made a reservation in advance after reading the positive reviews on HappyCow because I am a vegan and my mother, who was with me, is gluten-free. Our waiter was wonderful, and came over to walk us through what was gluten-free in the menu. The menu has a vegetarian section with two clearly labeled "Vegan" options. I had stir fry vegetables cooked in sweet chilli sauce, sesame oil and soy sauce served with rice. The food was amazing: the sauce had kick without being overpowering and the veggies were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I also appreciated that they provided more veggies than rice because I've often found that restaurants will give tons of rice with fewer veggies. I had a vegan-friendly apple pie for dessert, which was also outstanding. My mom had the salmon, which she loved. However, she was unable to have any of the dessert options, which was a downside, especially since I notified them of our dietary restrictions well in advance. All in all, it was a fantastic dining experience, and I would definitely recommend it to any vegans looking for dining options in Killarney.

Small With Great Snacks

As a student at Hamilton College, Tom's is a fantastic local resource for healthy snacks, seasonal produce, and coffee off-campus. The store is small, but has the essentials. They have a particularly great selection of snack items, such as yoghurt and chocolate covered pretzels, raisins, and almonds. I particularly recommend their "Cranberry Munchies," which are in-house-made and a great on-the-go energy boost. The store also sells Clinton Pottery mugs for interested buyers, which are very popular with students. If you're in the area and want to stock-up on healthy and yummy snacks, I definitely recommend checking out Tom's.
