The Paleo Diets have been criticized for assuming that humans all ate a single diet in Paleolithic times.
Actually, humans in different locales and different climates ate a rather wide variety of diets in those days. And not all experienced ideal health.
Having read a rather large number of books on diet and nutrition over the past forty years, I would suggest John Robbins' excellent, "Healthy at 100".

Some versions of the "paleo diet" are an improvement on the way the average American eats, so it's not surprising that you may experience weight loss, etc.
I saw an improvement in my health when I eliminated hot dogs from my regimen in 1974, but I still had lots to learn about food back then.
A google search for "Problems with the Paleo Diet" will bring up many critiques of the PD.
