We humans are the most destructive animals. We just dont respect nature and animals the way we should.

Thanks for posting this. I hadn't heard about the Yangtze baiji dolphins before... Nature is awesome. It's too bad and so sad.
Modern civilization for the advancement of?

The term "technological advancement" is sometimes quite the oxymoron. :(

On what vesalius123 said - A lot of human destruction comes from human greed. Just look at the bottom line... WHO PROFITS? Teaching respect for nature is possible, it's just not profitable, so it's not promoted in mainstream culture. Drilling for oil is profitable. Cutting down rainforests to make room for cattle (beef) is profitable. Altering the genes of grains and vegetables to increase production is profitable. Teaching respect and kindness is awesome but not monetarily profitable.

Actually, a lot of human destruction comes from ignorant third worlders. The last of those things probably ended up on some fisherman's table somewhere. He probably didn't even know what it was, and he wouldn't have cared even if he did, because he's poor and has to eat.
If McDonald's had gotten ahold of these things fifty years earlier they'd be everywhere now. You think the cow is going to go extinct any time soon? We slaughter them by the millions and there's still more of them now than there ever have been. If only some huge corporation could have found a way to make a buck off the river dolphin then their survival would be assured. And they probably taste amazing. With a little cracked black pepper and a nice marinade. Mmm mmm.
Anyway, before it's too late, we ought to do everything we can to introduce elephant and white rhino meat into the mainstream. Let's face facts here, when you can buy elephant patties at Walmart, then they're not going anywhere.

Wallydraigle-
Do you actually believe that we do something positive for cows by raising billions for slaughter?
By that logic, one could argue that enslaving African people saved them from possible extinction from predators such as lions...
Extinction is a sad thing, but is it as sad as the horrors of factory farming and the slaughterhouse?
