  • Smart Train Station Dining

Once the home of the dilapidated Whitby Tandoori which had seen better times this is now a plush, modern high end Thai restaurant with excellent labelled vegan options. On the Friday night of Whitby Goth weekend in April the place was packed at around 20:00. There was even a queue in the lobby. We returned at 22:00 to find the place much quieter and less hectic with only a few tables of groups finishing their meals. Perfect. A table overlooking the station platform added to the conviviality. There was a special offer of £20 vegetarian dining for two consisting of a starter, side dish, curry and jasmine rice. Bring it on. The starter was supposed to be sweetcorn cakes but the knowledgeable staff advised they contained egg so provided us with spring rolls and vegetable parcels. These were accompanied with a couple of delicious tofu and mushroom skewers. The green Thai curry was quite sensational, although it would have been nice to have a few pieces of tofu in there. No problem though. The rice was fine and the side dish of roasted vegetables in a spicy, garlicky soy sauce was quite remarkable. This was a feast. Wines are not labelled as vegan but a quick check on barnivore or the Vegaholic app will help you locate a suitable option. They also do take away, just take 20% off the regular prices.
