  • Highly disappointing

The Vegan Nom seems like a cool food truck at first glance. Creative menu items, nice location, free drinks sometimes. As a gluten free vegan I was happy to see several options for myself. I have now been here several times, and each time was a bad experience. I usually give places 2-3 visits with grace before landing on an opinion that's worth sharing. First off, there is a parking lot which is nice, but it's confusing to get to if you're coming off of Cesar Chavez, and if the lot is full you better be prepared to walk a long way as there is nothing close but off streets. Second, if the parking situation wasn't annoying, some of the workers are very unprofessional and unfriendly. Not all of them, as sometimes we get nice cashiers taking our order, but even then I am usually annoyed by the attitude of another. They could really use some training in customer service as it will take their business to new heights. But, for now, if you are in a bad mood you should definitely stay away as to not make it worse. Third, which goes well with my second, is that you better be prepared to wait an incredibly long time for your food no matter what day and time you go. Sure, they have board games to play while you wait, but it is still not fun waiting for a long time when you're starving. The first two times I went there were 3-4 people max, and I waited over 30 minutes for my food to come out (3 tacos every time). But the most recent time was my worst experience. I ordered 3 tacos and chips and queso. Now this was a Sunday afternoon and there was about 10-15 people there. I ordered chips and queso knowing I would have to wait a little long. After 30 minutes I went and asked what the wait time would be and the worker rudely told me it'd be awhile and I should have called in if I didn't want to wait. After 45 minutes I went back asking if I could have my chips and queso, and it turned out they had been sitting there and they never called them out. I annoyingly ate my chips, got another refill (that's a pro, free refills on chips), and after 1 hour I asked about my tacos again, and they said they'd be out soon. It took a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes to get my 3 tacos, only to bite into flavorless fake meat on tortillas. So my conclusion is that the employees have probably had little to no training, and definitely 0 training on customer service. I regularly support vegan businesses in Austin, but this one just isn't worth the pain and suffering.
