- Great addition to the Gold Coast
This place is at 'Hollywood Plaza' - i guess because it's on the opposite side of the highway to Warner Bros. It's at the back left of the plaza. The store has a larger sign on it that says something like Organic Grocery - maybe they plan to add one? - so if you see this don't be put off - that's the place. The bakery has a full range from danishes, croissants and donuts to bread - although i was told the bread is only available on weekends. Nothing's brought in, it's all baked in house and looks great. The only thing is at the time of my visit the sweet things were all white flour and sugar - nothing wholemeal on offer. They also have pies - which is what i got this visit. The pastry is wonderful - albeit white flour again. The fillings varied: the plain pie was ok, i enjoyed it, but it's just that, plain. There's no unusual spice combination or vegies. I wasn't that thrilled with the chikn pie either, although that could be because i'm not really into chikn pies - i got it because it was recommended to me. Even so, it did have vegies, and the typical chikn pie taste. But the bolognaise pie was a real winner. It had tomato in it and once i started, it was hard to stop. It was kind of like a pie with sauce, except you didn't need to put sauce on it, and the tomato tasted nicer than sauce, which is a bit sweet and vinegary for my liking. All the pies are a pretty generous size, too. Overall 4 stars. Everything looks great and is nicely presented, but no bread's available during the week - which is unusual for a bakery - and there are no white flour and sugar alternatives.
