  • Best buffet in Rio

STOP PRESS: it's now fully vegan! Well, it's not really stop press - it's been fully vegan since they replaced the honey in the dressings with molasses four years ago. Confirmed with the owner via the WhatsApp link on their website. I've been coming here for 15 years whenever I visit Rio. Here's my first review from 2008: "I visited five of Rio's Happycow-listed buffets during my recent stay in the city, and this was the best of the lot. Fully vegetarian, probably fully vegan, with a good variety of tasty items at a decent price." Fifteen years later, I've been seven times in two weeks, and it's still very good. Unusual items like seitan and curried cauliflower, and with the usual staples and excellent salads too - everything always delicious. There's a day-by-day menu published on their website each week if there's something specific you wanted. Don't worry if the menu says fish - it's vegan tofu and seaweed not the real thing. It's open weekday lunchtimes (except holidays) and at these times it's not dangerous at all - it's in the middle of a busy shopping area which is perfectly safe during shopping hours. It's a skip and a jump from Tiradentes tram stop and still an easy walk from Saara/Presidente Vargas metro. Updated from previous review on 2023-04-04
