Tasteful restaurant discreetly tucked away beneath Cockermouth Castle. Maintains a high standard of fancy vegetarian food; my only problem with Q&M (other than the price!) is that my subconscious apparently believes it's entirely vegan, since I'm always surprised to find there are things I can't eat. Still, there's a wide range of options for vegans (both sweet and savoury). On my budget I go there once a year and am never disappointed. There is a cosy little anteroom where you wait for your table, with nibbles (not always vegan) and interesting books on veggie cooking to read. Trip to the toilet as per usual for Cockermouth i.e. a journey into the bowels of the earth past such fascinating things as a defunct kitchen range.
