  • Very disappointing. On all levels.

We spent a week in Madrid. Both my girl and I, are vegan. Thus, we were looking forward to checking out every vegan place we could in town. This was the first vegan restaurant we visited during our trip and... wow, was it disappointing. To start with, many of the pictures you see here on Happy Cow are not from this restaurant (or, they were- some time ago). I pointed to/asked about a few of the more appetizing images, and the waiter mentioned something about 'before' (my Spanish is very poor). I think, this was a different restaurant/owner before, and most images are from that time. The menu here, offers what promises to be great food. But, when it comes out... it's very cheaply done fast/junk food. We had the mushroom platter- it was just breaded mushrooms, deep fried, with fast food style vegetable oil (tasted like truck stop food - bland and, just what you'd expect from taking mushroom, breading them, and tossing them in a fryer). We tried a sandwich- it felt like a microwaved sandwich you pick up at a 7-11 (plain toast, oiled up (we requested no oil on it, but- it came soaked in oil anyway) with a few slices of lettuce and tomato). We also tried the potatoes- I don't recall the exact name on the menu, but they sounded quite tasty. What we received was the equivalent of one potato, thinly sliced, organized in an oval shape around the edges of a plate (to make the portion look bigger), with a dish of some sort of gravy in the middle. Anyway, I genuinely dislike leaving a poor review for any vegan place. I feel like, we need to stick together, and support each other. However, this place... just failed on every level. The decor, the food, the misleading photos. I'm sure others have had a good experience here, however- if you like your food not only vegan, but also- 'healthy', and presented with some modicum of finesse, this isn't the place for you..
