  • Vegan Night Was A Let Down

A vegan night at Filmore & Union sounded a great idea, but when I enquired about vegan wines on arrival, they had none apart from some Prosecco, why have a vegan menu & no vegan wine. Starters of carrot & thyme pancakes & asparagus with white bean houmous were really good but two of the main courses were a real let down. The biryani was nothing like a biryani, it was a thick soup like consistency with rice in it, so the potato rosti on top was all soggy instead of being crisp. My filo tart was minute, with a thin whisper of filo pastry which was under cooked, plonked on top of a huge pile of quinoa tabbouleh... the description of the dish should have been quinoa tabbouleh with a garnish of filo tart. Our friends gyoza dumplings dish though was very good. Desserts were a sharing board of delicious amaretto baked peach, &chocolate and orange brownie. There was also filo tart of strawberry with vanilla cashew cream, but again very skimpy with the pastry, again under cooked and soggy as the cashew cream was very soft. I was very disappointed with the whole experience, it is not the first time visits to Filmore and Union have been less than satisfactory and I really do not think I would return.
