  • A central must when visiting Halmstad!

Finally there's a 100% vegan hangout in the one and only "City of Salmons / Laxastaden" Halmstad, and luckily it's a really good eat. "Glada grisen" is on a back street in central Halmstad, right next to a nice park. The location itself has been the home to various clubs and restaurants as long as I can remember, but I must say "Glada grisen" really made it look nicer than ever. The atmosphere is cosy, a bit hippie chic with some home built lamps and so on, but not over the edge. In the summer when I visited the windows are all open out towards the park, and you can even hang out on pillows in the window sill. Enough about the space, that you might have noticed I like very much ... I ordered a "Fooled pork sallad". It consisted of some fresh sallads, rice, "fooled pork" protein (think it was soy) and a fat dip cream (and I'm sure there were some other tasty stuff I forgot about). Everything tasted great, and also very tastefully arranged. Not too fancy, just fresh. Think it cost me about 100 SEK. It was a lot of food, but I would still have wished for a little bit more "fooled pork" protein. Next time I'll ask for that as a side order? Would also recommend some extra bread to go with this to get real full. Something that makes me glad is that "Glada grisen" doesn't go the "raw food" direction of vegan food. This is healty food, but it's also very filling and they're not afraid of fat when it adds to the taste! To sum it up "Glada grisen" is a really nice place, with very friendly staff and a good hangout. A lot of seating makes it inviting to sit down for a while, and there are plenty of vegan pastries! I can easily imagine this place turning into a cafe, a lunch restaurant and a club on different hours of the day. Will definitely return here and taste the pastries ... Don't miss "Glada grisen" when you're in Halmstad!!
