  • Good food from Toowoomba's only vegetarian café

After hearing about Toowoomba's only all Vegetarian café, I was pretty excited to try it out. On a lazy Thursday lunchtime, I decided to take my girlfriend to Michelle's Café. As I walked in the front door, I was greeted by a fairly pleasant ambiance. Apart from a little bit of writing on the menu board, nothing there would tell you that it's vegetarian. I had a quick look at the menu, and noticed that Vegan items weren't marked, so I asked the lady behind the counter. She suggested that the Sweet and Sour mock chicken was vegan, or I could have the Laksa with rice noodles instead of the usual egg noodles. Both my girlfriend and I decided to go for the Sweet and Sour mock chicken. The meals came out pretty quickly. We both enjoyed the meal. The flavours of the dish were very strong, but worked well in the meal. My only complaint was that the mock chicken was a little on the dry side, but nothing that couldn't be remedied by making sure it was covered in the sauce. Overall, I'm very glad this place exists. The food is good, and the atmosphere is nice. It doesn't quite live up to the Vegetarian and Vegan restaurants in the major cities, but it definitely scores bonus points for being the only Vegetarian place in Toowoomba. The prices are pretty much standard for Toowoomba Café fare. I do wish there were more Vegan dishes on the menu, and it would be great if they were marked as such, but overall definitely worth the visit.
