  • they don't want the HF store label

This store is very frustrating to herbivores. There is almost nothing in their grab-n-go or deli selections. They have 5 or 6 stations, all very limited to vegans. Not only that, but what they do have vegan is surrounded by meat and they carelessly drip like chopped liver into your raw noodle serving platter. Gross. They also have a big pig's head (actual from butcher area, not a toy or prop) sitting in the case with the food, if that is any indication. Yes, they do have organics and the things you might seek in a HF store. The bakery is excellent but be sure to get a plastic bag they dry out quickly otherwise. However they also prominently feature [censored] found in widespread stores and gas stations, like mountain dew and those crappy monster style drinks, to the GMO cereals HF stores usually try to avoid. In the emails they send after you buy they word it carefully and when you ask in the store they say they don't consider themselves to be a HF store. You will find they have some vegan cheese. It is located next to bacon. Their coffee is very expensive, not even all OG. The staff is a 50/50 split of kind happy helping people and bitter carnivores who hate locating your random veggie item amidst the sea of crappy GMO cereals, pepsi products and meat sections. Same ratio for baristas, both the best and worst espresso, so hope you get a good one. They regularly sell out of tofu, they source the national brands rather than the great ones from Eugene (though they have their tempeh) or from Vashon Island (though they are opening a store in Mercer ~ they are going to get housed up there). I shop here, but I hate it here. I rather drive the extra up to Vitamin Cottage aka Natural Grocers down the way, but not always feasible. The owners are the funk fakers who opened bought a dairy without any knowledge of how to care for the animals, slapped an organic label on it, because OG dairy prices are absurd. The pollution details are on this site somewhere. If you are a vegan seeking a compatible place this will disappoint. Other than the bakery, you are better served at the VC/NG. If you don't care as long as you can get a few staples you will be fine. I hate this place, they are in it for the $$, not a HF store missive. And they own it.
