- Sympathetic, Western Style Cafe-Restaurant
Friendly atmosphere catering to the backpacker and NGO crowd. According to the menu there's a range of "Japanese" and Thai dishes, Spaghetti dishes, sandwiches, toasts - and that's not all. I got a "Japanese style" "Chai Dee Fried TOFU Set": Rice, mock meat, grated carrots on a lettuce leaf - that was about it. The separately ordered vegetable soup was small and unremarkable. I've just arrived in Laos, so don't take my observations too serious. But when I visited first time, there were rats scampering over the kitchen floor, and when I told the waiters, they just stood around me laughing and explained the place was built above a canal - not lifting a finger. The dining area seemed clean (you have to leave your shoes at the entrance), plates etc. were new and spotless. And I liked the service anyway. Based on the dish I got and this experience I'd rather go to a different restaurant for food - it can be cheaper too. But for a coffee and Wifi there're probably few better locations in town. Some updates on earlier information: According to staff the cafe has three owners, one of them being Japanese (but not present). These days there aren't any mosquitos in Savannakhet, even in the evening (November 2014, confirmed by other travellers).
