- Good food, poor vegan knowledge of staff..
My partner and I were in Prague a couple of weeks ago and we travelled across town to have dinner here, when we arrived it was 5 minutes past 10pm (I had read that the restaurant closed at 11.30pm so thought we had plenty of time) and were told that the kitchen was closed and we could only order cold tapas dishes. We were starving so accepted. We ate a few dishes and they were all good - a lot of hommus dishes on the menu. The restaurant had nice decor and was in a good area of the old town. We made a booking for dinner a couple of nights longer. Due to being just late for our train we arrived just over 15 minutes late and they had given our table to others - it is a very busy restaurant (even though it is huge!). The lady said to wait and she would be able to find us a seat as there were only 2 of us. We didn't wait long before we were seated. We were anxious to order as it wasn't that long until 10pm and we were worried we were denied service. The dish I wanted to order had sold out so I asked what the lady recommended and chose another dish instead. I also asked what vegan wines they had? The lady looked at me blankly for a minute and then said she didn't know. I was surprised and she didn't offer to check or ask someone else, she just stood there and said again that she didn't know. She was quite young so I thought maybe she was knew and thought I would ask someone else. A while later another lady came to serve us and I asked her if any of their wines were vegan? She also looked at me blankly and I explained to her how wine is made with filtering agents which are often not vegan, and sometimes not even vegetarian. She said 'Oh no our wine wouldn't have any of those products'. I could tell she didn't really know thought so I asked if she was sure? She said she had never heard of vegan wine and would ask someone and see if they knew. The lady never came back to let us know. I found it highly surprising that staff at a vegetarian restaurant don't know if their wine is vegetarian or vegan and it really put me off going there ever again. Not so much that they didn't know, but that they didn't bother to find out if anyone else knew or get back to me? The food wasn't bad, the decor of the restaurant was lovely, but I would never return due to what I would consider bad service of staff.
