  • Excellent vegan preparations.

I ate at the Homestead twice in May 2016, and each time the meals that were specially prepared by the chef were the best vegan meals I've had while in Homer for two years. The first plate was a sampler of crispy tofu, asparagus pistou, house-made kimchi, and local radishes. The second plate was a vegan take on the special of the evening with fresh-picked morel mushrooms prepared with fresh vegetables, spring turnips, and more kimchi at my request (it is incredibly good kimchi). At each visit the owner knew the details of veganism and personally discussed options with the chef. I said I was happy to order the items on the menu that are vegan, but the owner kindly insisted on at least offering options for specials. The chef came out to the table at the end of the second visit to check on the meal and ensure it was satisfactory. When making reservations it seems a good idea to specify vegan or vegetarian diners in the group to give an alert, though there are vegan options already on the menu that look delicious.
