- Excellent vegan restaurant
Trigais is the only vegan restaurant in Caxias do Sul (and probably in all northeastern Rio Grande do Sul) and also one of the best ones in the state. It first opened its doors around 20 years ago, when veganism was still something pretty unknown in this part of Brazil, and has since then succeeded in offering high quality food made with organic ingredients and 100% cruelty-free. Its owner, Margarete, is a considerate lady who's vegan activist since many years and who knows a lot about it. It's nice to talk with her before leaving the restaurant. The restaurant works in the traditional Brazilian buffet system, both per kilo and free (all-you-can-eat). The current (October 2015) price is R$ 28,50 per person, which includes the food, a juice and a dessert. The food is very delicious! The buffet is normally composed of around eight hot dishes, many options of salads and a one or two soups. Generally three different juices and two different desserts are offered. The place is really nice, has a very good vibe and there's normally a nice instrumental music playing. I'm not sure about this, but I think there are some tables to eat outside in sunny, warm days. The place also has a small shop and opens some afternoons for teatime (cakes, coffee, snacks in general). Absolutely recommended!
