- cozy place
I had lunch at De Bonte Kraai today. It is a small cafe, cutely decorated with a nautical theme (quite Dutch) and a cozy feel. The owners are very friendly and considerate ~after I asked about vegan options, they left the standard accompanying cookie off of my coffee order because it isn't vegan. As far as I can tell, small towns in Holland are not at all vegan-friendly, so this is rare for a place like Katwijk. I had the lentil soup, and was told their daily soup is always vegan. It was quite tasty and hearty. It came with their homemade bread, which was very good. They also have the vegan "Dutch Weedburger", which is made of soy "meat" and kombu (sea veggie), and looked delicious but my appetite wasn't that big. I am sure if you ask they will tell you what is vegan or can be made vegan. At the time I ordered, I was one of only two people in the place, and yet it took quite awhile til the soup arrived. I can't imagine how this works when the place is full. Bring patience and don't expect American-style speedy service. As long as you don't expect that, you will be satisfied and cozy here.
