- Baked GF, Vegan Donuts
They call their vegan donuts "Vlugen" (or something like that) because they are not only vegan but also gluten-free. Anyone who's eaten at Babycakes or used the Babycakes cookbook has had these type of donuts before. They appear to baked so they are more like baked donut shaped cakes instead of traditional donuts (like Cinnamon Snail produces). I ordered a half dozen so I could sample all the vegan options (cinnamon sugar, plain, powdered sugar, and three types of glazes (vanilla, chocolate, caramel). When I looked in the box though all the glazed donuts were just vanilla. I'm not quite sure where the mix-up happened the cashier didn't seem to understand what vegan meant when I was ordering so it could have simply been a communication issue. Either way the donuts were pretty good. All the cinnamon sugar topping slides right off though so be prepared for that. For the price ($15 for six) I wouldn't go out of my way to have them again but it's pretty cool that they are being offered in the first place so I'd try to support them down the road and visit at least once more.
