  • Mixed feelings about this place...

I have easily been to InSpiral around 40 times and my feelings after all those visits are mixed. When good, the atmosphere is amazing and the food is tasty and healthful. The lasagne is probably my favourite and the spiced wedges with vegan mayo are good too. Sundays is home to a live open mic event and this can also be great when good acts come to the (small) stage and you go in a crowd with friends. When bad, however, the service is slow and the food is lukewarm. Quite often hot food has been left out for a long time and so it is not as fresh as it could be. It is also expensive for what it is. On one of my most recent visits to InSpiral my partner stood at the counter waiting to buy a canned drink but was ignored by the cashier who was having a casual chat about his holidays with a non-paying customer. It would have been very easy to put the conversation on hold for a moment, to serve my partner and then carry on. Instead my partner stood for 2-3 mins waiting and then decided to put the drink back after being blatantly ignored (you can't miss him - he's a big guy!). We left and have not been back since. Nicely located by the lock, be sure to visit nearby Cookies and Scream - the best stop for vegan shakes and brownies.
