Daniel Johns and his alternative rock band, Silverchair originated from Newcastle Australia. They achieved much success in Australia and New Zealand before becoming known in the United States in the late 1990s. He formed the band Silverchair as a young teen, after having played music with one of its members since Primary School. The band achieved success in the grunge, post-grunge, and alternative rock genres in the 1990s and early 2000s, before a style change with their album 'Young Modern' released in 2007.
He is also a part of a side-project involving other Australian musicians called 'The Dissociatives'.
He has an Animal Liberation tattoo.
He was once married to fellow Australian musician Natalie Imbruglia.
