Overrated and average - Edit
Personally found the restaurant somewhat intimidating and a bit stuck up (not the staff more so the customers haha!) so that’s not really their fault. I had the strawberry waffles and did not enjoy them very much. Not enough fruit and the cream was coconut which I found way too thick and strong. Also had the protein shake which was okay. My husband can’t even remember what he had it was that unmemorable! It’s got a working space vibe rather than a restaurant which is fine so I’d come back to work rather than to eat

Overrated and too expensive - Edit
I was so disappointed about that place. Their food on the menu looks amazing but it was not tasty enough... Especially for the price!
Read moreWe had the fish teriaky burger and the zest sandwich and then for the desert we has the strawberry waffles and one slice of lemon pie. The savory meals was ok but too expensive for what it was. You could definitely have better taste in other vegan restaurants in Ubud (we tried Sayuri Healing Food and seed of life and WAY BETTER). The waffle wasn't sweet enough and the whipe cream was tasteless... The lemon pie though was ok! I would prefer with more lemon taste inside but it was ok.
For the service, the staff was overwhelmed and we waited so long to each step (having the menu, having a glass of water, to order etc...)
For the good point, the area is nice and we had a live concert...
Pros: Nice atmosphere , Live music
Cons: Not good enough , Too expensive!! , The service is too long

vibe check/GF - Edit
ALL of the desserts and cakes are gluten free!!! basically everything that is on the menu that says gf is no longer gf hahaha they just dont wanna update their menu. but cauli wings are, they are fire & the burgers and a pasta are. gf bun is pretty good and big grill burger is juicyyyy 🤌 the vibe is def stuck up, boujee “hipster” not a genuine vegan love vibe and the menu jokes about carnivores coming for a plant meal so take that how you will 😬🫥 the place seems catered for the people who are too good for being vegan except for places like Zest.. but hey the more people eating vegan is always a good thing in the end. if you want a more authentic vibe and genuine intention as a whole and menu, check out Sayuri healing food about a mile away! their message, and healing food is top tier and the layout is ✨

A talented kitchen - Edit
Zest offers an impressively diverse menu featuring creative international vegan cuisine, including burgers, bowls, sushi, salads, sides, and plenty of drinks and desserts. Everything we’ve tried ranges from good to great. Highlights were the tempura sushi and the jackfruit burger.
Read moreThe ambience is an exercise in meta-self-referential expat-Ubud vibes, yet service remains down to earth, warm and helpful, and prices are within reason for what you get.
The place is very popular with the international crowd, so consider booking ahead, especially during peak hours or when there’s live music or events.
Enjoy! #Veganuary

Yummy food in a great space - Edit
Zest is super busy with a wait to get a table. It’s worth it though as the food is very yummy! They also have tarot cards on the tables which is a nice touch. The staff seem stressed though, understandably as it gets very crowded.

Super cozy, bad food - Edit
We’ve been there three times and tried almost every item on the menu. The only good options are Jackfruit pizza and jackfruit sushi. Everything that is fried is awful with disgusting low quality oil smell. One day the Vietnamese Pho was good, the other it was just water without any flavour. The burgers were dry inside and lacked sauce. The jackfruit steak was hard to chew. It takes forever for your dishes to arrive. The front staff waitress was too rude and acted like she was too annoyed with my question. The strawberry panacota was good. The coffee was good. But it feels like they don’t care to much about the quality. The ambiance is amazing though.

We really enjoyed the cheese platter and the desserts.
Read moreThe main dishes ( we had burger and pizza) were disappointing. The pizza is very small and doesn’t taste very good. The cheese balls taste just like mashed potatoes.

Don't be fooled by "top rated" - Edit
Were here 2 times and both were not so good.
Read moreThey dont know how to make a good coffee as well as a cacao.
The bread and waffles are extremely harsh, you can kill with this waffles.
The portion for breakfast combo is extremely small, but the price is above other dishes.
The stuff are rude. The waiter spills water on both our visits. And also she cleaned the spilled water from the table and the floor with the same towel. 🤮
The pancakes is good (its hard to ruin them, but i cant recommend anything other than we tried (breakfast combo the sinner, big breakfast stack, nori waffles)
The menu is big, and as we know, you cannot make everything good.
They have a live music, but its too loud, and the sound coming from cheap speakers.
The interior is great, btw.
P.s. Don't trust "must try" in the menu.
Pros: Interior
Cons: Food, Drinks, Stuff

Hippest spot in Ubud - Edit
Beautiful spot, beautiful food options from sushi to burgers to curries. Very hip and the prices reflect that. We had the Peking duck style sharing platter and it was amazing. But the best thing were there cauliflower bites we had as a side.

Echt heel slecht. 8x! Terugkomen van het personeel. Aardige mensen maar het eten was echt slecht. Veel te veel saus. Omdat het meer saus dan eten is zat ik ook het papier wat onder de grill food lag op te eten. Wat een teleurstelling!

Cool vibe, impressive menu, service can be improved - Edit
I enjoyed the sushi and soup of the day (moringa). The experience was tarnished by some miscommunication. The restaurant redeemed themselves by offering a small discount on the bill however I was a bit put off from returning during my stay to explore more of the menu. A shame as I would have liked to otherwise. Clearly a popular spot for tourists / expats judging by how busy it was when I was there.

Exceptional aesthetics, flawed food - Edit
Zest delivers a 11/10 when it comes to style but when it comes to food and service, misses the mark.
Read moreEverything about Zest’s ambience screams bohemian hippie. The decor is a composite of upscale, cozy, and eccentric. The posh influencers and hippies only add to that effect. The temple and views are equally spectacular. This is a great venue for a date or a celebration.
Sadly, the quality preparation of food is off. The pizza has flavorful smoked sausage and cheese. However, the “sourdough” crust is little more than a flaccid pita as it had been microwaved. The wings are wonderfully crisp and marinated, but has the aftertaste of artificial buttered popcorn. The snikers bar is tasty, but imbalanced between hard chocolate and soft filling.
Further, the servers seem emotionally exhausted whether because of management, understaffed team, or entitled diners. When I had scooter problems some parking staff were helpful while other looked ok indifferently.
UPDATE:
I returned to give it another go.
The shiitake burger is one of the BEST vegan burgers I’ve ever had! A perfect balance between butter bun, savory patty, and creamy cheese.
The cinnamon waffle had great texture, but was hardly “sweet” as advertised. The Cacao Ceremony was nice, but thicker and less sweet than I’d hoped. The small is plenty for one.

Nice food but long waiting time - Edit
My husband and I were very excited about going to this restaurant because of the ratings here, but it wasn't a great experience. The food is nice and good, but not the best. It's great it's all vegan though, so a lot of options. However, when we went there the restaurant was quite full and it seemed the kitchen couldn't handle the number of guests. After ordering, we had to wait over an hour to get our food and then they had made a mistake with my husband's order so another 15-20 min wait. The portion size is a bit small so normally we'd probably have ordered an extra side dish or dessert after but due to the long waiting we didn't want to risk having to wait a long time again. Also quite pricey for the size of the dishes.
Read moreWhile the food was good, personally we didn't think the taste was worth the long waiting time so we probably won't be back. Seems we weren't the only one as we heard several other guests complain about this also
