NOT VEGAN

They claim to be 100% vegan as it says on the top of their menu and their website but they served non vegan deserts that were brought in as “gifts” (against health code?) but also they were on the menu. The employees refused to tell anyone what was in them and assumed they were vegan, they were not. They even lied about where some of them came from. Please be careful! They have now threatened to sue anyone who questions them about this, instead of rectifying the issue and sincerely apologizing and assuring it won’t happen again. Horribly customer service and business practice. Not to mention that their health inspection is also highly concerning.

Cons: Not vegan , Lied about vegan items that aren’t actually vegan, Extreme allergy concern - could kill people.

Disappointed

1) They did not know how to organize take out vs. tables
2) Talked to someone at the bar about food and the server brought our drinks before letting us know 3 out of the 5 items on the menu were unavailable (they were also the only items we came for)
3) Got fries so at least we had a snack with our drinks but the fries were subpar.

Pros: Vegan options

Cons: Everything else

Love the food and ambience here!

I have been here a few times in the past few months. I enjoy going to HOY and this place is right across the street. It has some amazing vegan food, I loved different variations of the vegan wings and then the mac and cheese!
They have some cool themed nights, it is women owned and very inclusive. I will definitely go back sometime this month, I am craving some wings!! Their drinks are awesome as well - my friend and I got a pineapple / mezcal drink that we really enjoyed. I definitely recommend the Gradient!

Delightful!

Been to this place twice and both times have been an amazing experience. The first time was a few months back with a non-vegan friend. Both of us were highly satisfied. It was his first time trying out a full vegan menu and I'm happy I popped his cherry here. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The nachos were banging!Ambience is nice and relaxed, most places in the area are dive bars which I love but it's nice to finally have something different in Bushwick. Definitely try the vegan whiskey sour (or 10 like I did lol). My second time back was this past weekend, I brought a bunch of my friends for a shindig they threw with a Jewish themed menu. The Latkes with vegan sour cream was the best. I definitely recommend checking this place out, especially for open mic night which it's perfectly set up for.

Completely Unethical Establishment

I don’t really have any patience for a restaurant passing off a non-vegan menu item as vegan. But for a VEGAN restaurant to do that is infuriating. And then when confronted about it, they simply lie. This is everything that veganism is not. Avoid this place at all costs.

Cons: Liars, Not vegan, Overpriced

Awesome Vegan noms & cocktails!

I've eaten here a few times and have to say everything has been awesome.
The seitan wings were excellent... can't be sure how many I ate, but it was a lot.
The sauce on the burger, holy moly.
And also loved the vegan whiskey sour! Had more than a few of those ;)

Will definitely be coming back :)

Good!

What’s dope about the Gradient is it’s a vegan cheat food that seasoned well and prepared so beautifully. The interior is a beautiful and warm setting for intimate dinners and brunches. They have an expansive beer and liquor selection. They also have weekend festivities like their comedy shows and others. I recommend visiting during brunch to try their pumpkin French toast

Nachos to die for...

Went to a vegan wing eating contest and wasn’t disappointed! The whiskey sour was unbelievable, and the nachos were my favorite. We had the nachos topped with beyond beef and yum... atmosphere was great, staff was fun, will definitely return!

Dishonest Practices - Actively Deceiving Customers

Staff/owners have the following designations as of December 2019:
- Serving milk chocolate gelt at a vegan Hanukkah party
- Serving non-vegan sufignot at the vegan Hanukkah party
- Lying on origins/details of sufignot at the party to cover up deceit
- Creating fake reviews after the fact (on this platform and others) to combat truth in a further effort to cover up deceit

Cons: Deceptive practices, Non-vegan, Lazy

NYC to BK for The Gradient all the way!

#1!!!
Bushwick, Brooklyn needs to personally thank The Gradient for existing in the neighborhood! From the weekday menu starting at 4pm to the weekend menu at 2 for brunch... its Alllllll Amazing. The BEST not only in BK but in my opinion the city, and I've been vegan for 12.5 years. The Staff, chef and managment is really cool and fun... i also party there on the weekends with local DJ's and dope weekend drink specials, $5 shots people! Everything is always on point.
p.s Dont read any of those wack negative reviews below, so fake!

Pros: awesome vegan cocktails, great late night , good music

Had a Happy Chanukah at the Chanukah party!!

I’m shocked and appalled from the reviews below so much enough that it’s making me write 2 reviews.
1 for the Fab Chanukah party and the next one will just be for the gradient & it’s Great Food & pretty cocktails!
I had the best time ever at The Gradient this past Friday when I was visiting brooklyn for the holidays and found the gradient on happy cow! I followed the IG account which is the cutest and shows so many fun events and sweet things so I bought the ticket for only $29 which is amazing and it included their Full VEGAN Chef cooked dinner of Latkes (the best I’ve ever had and I’m jewish) and homemade lemon hummus & crudités. Next was (follow your heart) MAc & Cheese ( I asked all questions and they told me every ingredient basically so I don’t know why people are staying false things on here) and sweet & sour vegan seitan wings that were incredible!! A little chili flavor of that extra spike and super super saucy... I had 2 plates of each option and was full to the max + a cute complimentary cocktail with my ticket I bought online that I easily just showed the bartender. A great jewish - artist style and others playlist and Chanukah toys to take pictures with in front of a HUGE Blow Up Menorah! And .... Zohan (Adam Sandler movie) was playing + the Rugrats Chanukah too... how cute! I felt the love from everyone that works there and the food and hosts. I want to give them a special thanks for making my pre-Chanukah a better one than the south could ever offer!

The worst customer service and event organization I've ever seen

I attended an event at the Gradient on December 20, 2019 which was advertised as a Vegan Chanukah party. Tickets were $29 and included a 3-course meal and a cocktail. Upon arrival, it was hard to tell there was an event happening at all. No one ever asked to see my ticket, even when I got my cocktail There were no tables reserved for people who paid for the ticket, and many other guests were there. While waiting for the food, I noticed that the gelt (traditional chanukah chocolate coins) on display contained dairy milk. We spoke to the organizer about this and she insisted on keeping the dairy gelt out, saying that she "didn't promise the gelt would be vegan, just the food". After more people spoke up she eventually took it away. Many guests were unhappy that the ticket we paid for contributed to purchasing dairy/animal suffering for an event that was advertised as vegan. The food took a very long time, and the plates set out for event guests were plastic. The cutlery was disposable bio-plastic. This is disappointing because plastic is harmful to wildlife, the environment, and human health. The Gradient uses real dishes for patrons, so it was not necessary to use plastic/disposable items at this event. When the food finally did come out (crudites, latkes, bbq wings, and Mac & Cheese), I have no doubt that all of those items were vegan. After that the sufganiyot (traditional chanukah donuts) were served. Other guests and I all doubted that they were vegan. We asked where they came from and each of us individually got the same evasive answer: they were from a kosher bakery in crown heights that no one knew the name of, and they were kosher, pareve, and vegan. We kept asking in hopes of being told the name of the business that provided the donuts, but the name or ingredients were never given to anyone. I've lived in crown heights for 7 years as a vegan and I am not aware of any bakeries that sell vegan sufganiyot. None of us ate the sufganiyot because it was obvious that they weren't vegan and the event organizer was being intentionally evasive and dishonest. The day after this event the gradient posted on instagram that they have instituted a new policy that only certified vegan items will be served (admitting their guilt). I have rarely seen such poor execution of an event, such unprofessionalism, and such terrible customer service. I will not be returning to the gradient as long as that event organizer is still employed there.

Cons: Customer service

Stay away

I was really hoping to like this place because they had promising options on their menu but unfortunately I was not impressed. I wouldn’t go back to have the food that I tried there. Their wings were just ok, nothing great and you can definitely have better vegan wings in NYC. I also wouldn’t go back because of the staff and the owner. They told us everything was vegan but were serving non vegan foods and lied to us over and over again even after we caught them lying. I bought a $30 ticket for a chef made meal, it was also supposed to include a photographer, open mic etc. I definitely did not have a chef made meal and there wasn’t even enough food for the guests that were invited. There was no open mic or photographer.

Sketchy

I had a couple good meals here, then several friends went to an event based on my recommendation. They were served chocolate with dairy. Then, donuts were served and the restaurant refused to say where they came from or what the ingredients were (even when someone with a nut allergy needed to know). Later, the restaurant posted on Instagram that the donuts “were not 100% guaranteed to be vegan” - what?! In fact, the restaurant lied to me and said they were from a vegan donut shop. (I have a message from them stating this clearly.) rather than address these concerns, the (non-vegan) owner attacked vegans on Instagram, calling them “haters” who do nothing. Also, their most recent health code inspection said they have mice. I cannot say it strongly enough: stay away from The Gradient.

NOT FOR VEGANS!

If you are a vegan, or have an allergy to anything, I highly recommend you stay far away from this restaurant. I came here for an event that was put together and it was a complete and total [censored] show. They sold us tickets that were supposed to include food, please also note that this event was advertised as fully vegan and the restaurant claims they are fully vegan (something I don't believe anymore) not only was there not enough food for the guests, but the event organizer (who works for the restaurant directly) and the staff here were just straight nasty. They lied to us constantly about where certain things came from, they had NO idea if donuts they served us were vegan or not, they put people who have a nut allergy at risk, and even the food that was served, wasn't good. If you're a vegan and care where your money goes- I especially recommend you don't go here. Last night they used my money to go out and buy dairy chocolate and spent an hour arguing with us when we asked them to take it off the table. I was really excited to enjoy this place but after dealing with the staff and learning about the owner and how little she truly cares about her customers, I'd never come back here again.

Eh, it’s ok

I was excited by the menu when this restaurant opened. I ordered the buffalo wings and Mac and cheese. The wings were ok - basically deep fried seitan which had great breading but was kinda dry on the inside. The Mac and cheese was pretty good but not great and the portion was small. Too expensive for the quantity. I was also disappointed that despite a full vegan dinner menu the brunch menu was egg heavy.

Pros: Mostly vegan menu

Cons: Cost

new women owned vegetarian cafe and bar

Vegetarian menu but most items can be made vegan. Bar with nightlife events but also popular for food. Beyond burger, arepas, other trendy bar food. Food was delicious, we ordered half the menu. Staff was ok, they missed a part of our order but we showed 10 minutes before 5pm so we were just happy the kitchen was open. Would recommend.
