Taste of China

All veg and vegan people need to know that this place uses meat ingredients (beef or chicken stock, oyster sauce or fish sauce) in ALL of their sauces. Every single one. The only way to truly eat vegetarian here is to get the “ginger and scallion” version of whatever dish you choose, which means the food is cooked with ginger and scallion but doesn’t actually have a sauce. Most regular Chinese food places do exactly the same thing, basically limiting vegetarian choices to a handful of items on any menu. This means even getting broccoli in garlic sauce means you’re being served chicken stock. Just because this place replaces the flesh with soy products doesn’t mean they care about serving vegetarian or vegan food. Feel free to ask for yourself - this was the result of my questioning the staff, who consulted the chefs.

Cons: No vegetarian or vegan sauces

I don’t think you should post this with such certainty without speaking to them in their native language. They just told me with certainty that the vegan chicken was tofu when it’s clearly not tofu but seitan. The language issue is huge and for you to basically tank them when they serve what every other Chinese restaurant serves seems counterproductive and unfair. I would want someone who speaks Mandarin to confirm.

We ate there today and, unfortunately, saw your review after we got home. I called the restaurant and they checked with the chef, who said the sauces are all vegan, too, at least for the two dishes I told them we had - tofu with broccoli and orange chicken.

My advice is to ask before you order to check that the dishes you want are indeed fully vegan.
