My daily breakfast place - Edit
Staying in Akihabara for several weeks for work, I relied on my hotel for breakfast. However, the people from the hotel restaurant didn't have a clue what "vegan" meant. So it was time to find an alternative! In the end, Spirulina Blue Ueno was the perfect breakfast place for me.
Read moreHaving read the previous reviews saying the portions are very small, I indicated that I was hungry. The staff understood this and they stuffed and stacked the standard jar to the brim! Therefore, my granola bowl was both nutritious and filling. Yes, 997 yen isn't cheap for a bowl of grain and fruit but the quality was excellent. Also, it came with a glass of green health juice. And after eating the staff kept offering me little samples to fill my stomach even more.
You guessed it: Spirulina Blue Ueno quickly became my place to go in the Akihabara / Uneo area. Yet, it still felt weird to have breakfast every day in a department store surrounded by beauty shops.
How to find: Spirulina Blue Ueno is located in a department store called "Matsuzakaya". The name is written on the building and when you look up the location on Google Maps it shows exactly the right building. Once inside, go to the second floor (not to be confused with "M2", which is a half floor between the first and second floor). Spirulina Blue Ueno is between "wasser" and "Cafe comme ca".
Pros: healthy, tasty
Cons: expensive

Small but very nice. A but expensive for the amount you get, but it's worth it!

Great place for smoothies and sweets in Tokyo - Edit
Juice & smoothie shops are hard to come by in Japan, even in Tokyo! So I'm thankful for this little place. The staff there is so lovely and helpful. Practically everything here has spirulina in it, even the free water was infused with spirulina! Other reviewers mentioned being underwhelmed by the wrap the shop offered, so I didn't bother trying it. But I did order their smoothie bowl and cacao cake which were both good. This is a good place to go to for a snack between meals, dessert, or perhaps a light meal if you're not too hungry and just craving fresh fruit&veg.

Disappointing - Edit
We trekked our to Spirulina Blue in the hope of getting some lunch - but there was only the tiny wrap available for a savoury ‘meal’ for 1000 yen. We didn’t stop there therefore.

Really good cake and drinks! - Edit
The drinks with spirulina are great. I was given some free samples of their desserts and had to order a piece of the lemon cake because it was so good. I ordered a wrap as well.... But it was a bit underwhelming.

Wonderful people, wonderful food - Edit
My family ended up going here three times because they loved the food so much (cakes, cookies, smoothies, etc.). The best part about this place was the store manager Aki Ono, a certified raw food Meister. She was so kind and helpful.

The owner was so nice! She gave me a map of all of the vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurants around tokyo and gave me some of their granola to try for free! The wraps were small but very good and perfect for a light lunch.

Very friendly and delicious - Edit
Sehr empfehlenswert für einen leckeren Snack. Etwas schwer zu finden (im 2F des Gebäudes) - die Suche lohnt sich allerdings. Smoothies und Wraps toll, auch eine Smoothiebowl gibt es.
