Hamelin's vegan heart - Edit

The Trattiria Castello offered a, as we think, surprisingly broad choice of vegan options (they even have a separate vegan menu) without relying on meat substitutes, but on traditional italian dishes. We ordered many different meals (soup, pasta, pizza, sorbet, antipasti) and liked all of them.
One thing that we really liked was the restaurant's focus on sustainability. For example the waitress asked us if we wanted the small or the big sized pizza even though the prize was the same, just to make sure that no food would be left over. In general, they had a lot of organic and seasonal products.
If you're a vegan or vegetarian or just a fan of amazing italian food, this is the place to go in Hamelin.

VEGANS/VEGETARIANS GO HERE - Edit

Starving after a long day, this place came up and thought we would give it a shot. We happened to show up right at opening, and the chef herself went over the vegan options with us since our German was not great. She was incredibly kind and patient, and more than happy to serve us. The food was amazing, from appetizers to dessert. Little animal rights pamplets and newspaper cutouts are in a few places within the restaurant. The chocolate mousse was to die for! Central location right off of the river trail.

We followed the instructions and asked for the vegan menu and it was veggie and vegan. There were so many great options and the service was excellent. We will be going back the next night to try the pasta as the pizza was so delicious! So happy to find a great place near our hotel.
