Needs to up their game for vegans - Edit
Mel´s diner has a really cool atmosphere with the authentic 50´s American style interior and the staff is very friendly and attentive. They are advertised as vegan friendly but unfortunately they only have the option to make pizza with vegan cheese and one burger menu with a chickpea patty. I tried the burger and was a bit disappointed. Almost no topping, no sauce (apparently there was guacamole on the burger, I couldn´t tell) and the patty was a bit too greasy and boring for my taste. The only vegan dessert options they have is a lemon sorbet but it is home-made. All in all it is a cool place to dine but they need to improve their plant-based options to make it a worthwhile experience for vegans. There are only a few options for vegans in Basel but if you crave a burger I wouldn’t particular recommend this diner.

The vegan pizza is missing on their current menu so all you can get is the burger which, according to the other reviews, isn't that good.

One mediocre vegan burger available - Edit
I feel kinda bad leaving a bad review, since the staff was really friendly and helpful. But the only vegan burger was worse than prepacked vegan patties in a convenience store.
Read moreIt's a simple, dry chickpea patty, leaving a bland taste in your mouth. The bread was homemade and tasted great, I was satisfied with the toppings as well. I liked the fries and the salad was good too. I can imagine the pasta is vegan too.
But seriously, for vegans the options are not great. It's just place where you can get something in a group, but I wouldn't seek this place to eat a vegan burger. It's a pity, since the place is known for great meat-based burgers.
Pros: Nice atmosphere, Friendly people
Cons: Vegan options alone are not worth going there
