❗WARNING❗ - Edit
As of now, Happycow lists Cacao as a vegan place. This is not a vegan place. Not even a plant-based restaurant. Although all savory dishes (as far as we know) are plant-based, some desserts are not. In fact, 3 of the 6 desserts admittedly contain animal products, in spite of the "CACAO" logo located on the same page with the motto "plant based food".
Read moreIn addition, they sell goat milk ice-cream. So no happy cow here. Also, sad goat.
This is not the onl, reason I rate this place 2 stars. For my taste, the dishes were a bit flavorless and the meat substitutes (I guess seitan or soy) were poor quality. Not a heartwarming experience overall.

Great plant-based food, but goatmilk ice cream, really? - Edit
I love the traditional Greek food they got on their menu! The prices aren't that bad either compared to the other beach-front restaurants. My only problem with this restaurant is that they serve ice cream with goat milk (?) when it's supposed to be a fully plant-based restaurant.

Vegan place that is basically not vegan. - Edit
Nice open air, sea view, the fiid that we ordered was tastefull. But among the ice creams they offer there are some, based on goat milk. Also not all deserts are vegan. We ordered chocolate souffle and we were "warned" that it is not vegan. Esentially this should be ranked as a vegetarian restaurant.

Great food, Not a vegan place though - Edit
As advertised on happy cow I went to Cacao expecting a fully plant based menu, surprisingly when attending we were served a fully plant based menu with drinks, desserts and main courses. However at the front of the restaurant is an ice cream stand titled "Goat It" selling loads of different goat milk ice creams, two labeled vegan. When we wanted to purchase one of the ice creams titled vegan we were told it wasn't and the label was just a placeholder. This is dangerous to advertise like that especially with allergies.
Read moreAll the vegan food was great quality however this addition to the menu just ruined it. A lot of their advertising makes it look like their ice creams and desserts are vegan this needs to be changed asap!
Also to add, the full menu isn't available until 7pm
Pros: Vegan food tastes great
Cons: Expensive, Advertises as vegan but sells goat milk ice cream

Great selection of Greek vegan dishes - Edit
The good news is that the place is open and called Cacao. We ate there twice and loved everything we had. The keftedes (Greek meatballs), gyro, and souvlaki were all great fake meat dishes. They also have delicious salads, especially the watermelon, mint, and feta salads.

Disappointing - Edit
Now called Cacao.
Read moreExpensive and lacking flavour. My Greek salad was just very poor.
For some reason they serve "goat" icecream. I asked a staff member she said it was a bit of fun, and not all icecream was suitable for vegans.
Ordered "fresh" but it was not.
Staff not keen to talk about veganism.
They give plastic straws.
For the same money I saw local restaurants in the streets behind offering 6 vegan mezes for 2 people under 18 euros.

Let's Vegan (by Cacao) still very much open! - Edit
There seems to be some confusion on Google whether this place is open or not, but be assured it is still very much open.
Read moreThey do a good range of veganised Greek foods. The food tastes excellent and it is well presented. There is also an ice cream bar but it only sells a few varieties of vegan ice cream.
The outside dining area has a beautiful atmosphere and the seats are comfty.
The only negative I found was that it is somewhat pricey for the portion you get and in contrast to other places. But as it's the only fully vegan place in Rethymno, it's a small price to pay.

Let’s vegan by Cacao - Edit
Let’s vegan changed it’s name - still open!
Read moreMy boyfriend and I got the meze grilled plate for 2. It had Beyond meat (sausage, patty, meatballs, “souvlaki”), pita, potatoes, vegan tzatziki and bread.
There was plenty for both of us.
The only negative thing to say about this specific dish was, that there were missing some veggies. We got the watermelon salad with vegan cheese as in sliced watermelon with “feta” on the side. Not great for my taste, and a bit boring.
Pros: Lots of vegan options., Nice location., Friendly staff
Cons: Prices are on the high end, compared to others.

Delicious vegan food in Crete, Greece - Edit
This food was so lovely, we went four times in 2/3 days! They have all your classic Greek/Cretan food such as hummus, fava beans, vegan feta etc. We loved the falafel wraps, gyros and kebab with their handmade chips and salad. Also their chocolate cake was so divine, very moussey and light but rich at the same time. Such a big portion! One thing I would say is some of their dishes are really oily, but that is how we found it in all restaurants in Crete! Delicious though overall, highly recommend

I can do it better - Edit
We had the handmade pasta with dried tomato- chicken sauce, a kebab pita with Salat and fries and a traditional Cretan dish with tomato, pepper and feta.
Read moreThe kebab was good, but in the pita were only a few pieces of onion an a bit of tzaziki and the big fake meat kebab. So it was not a Highlight. We paid a few more euros for Salat and fries, but the amount of it was a joke. We got around eight fries and a few lettuce leafs.
The pasta hadn’t a lot of taste, maybe the forgot the sources or something. With a lot of salt it was ok, but We had just three pieces of „chicken“ and three small dried tomatoes. For 9€ it was just pasta with tomato sauce and if you are lucky there was a small extra on your spoon ….
And then the Appetizer, was completely disappointing. Just a few tomato and pepper slices with vegan feta backed in the oven. Nothing special, no nice spieces, no bread for socking the sauce…
For families: they have no chairs for babies or children.
All in all it wasn’t really got food and expensive. The rest of the menu is full of fake meat and we can’t recommend this place, we’re sorry :/
