Interesting food!

While visiting Chesapeake, I was excited to find a vegan friendly restaurant. The food is interesting, the combinations are foreign to me, but I'm a southerner who lives in a small town.

It runs like a chipotle, you start at one end of the bar and select a noodle bowl, rice bowl, or wrap. There there is a choice of "protein" which includes some meat but also a delicious pineapple marinated tofu. Then you choose the veggies, as many as you want and they have such things as bok choy, broccoli, onion marmelade, and I don't remember what else. The server can tell which are vegan and which are not. I think the corn has butter in it.

Then you choose garnishes and other goodies and you have a pretty decent sized meal for not too much $$.

The atmosphere lacks something, maybe it's the staff, they aren't "happy and vibrant" but by no means rude. I think they are understaffed because usually only one person is working so the tables may not be wiped or the trash may be overflowing but the food is labeled vegan and the staff knows what "vegan" means, and it's pretty darn tasty.

Pros: Foods labeled as vegan on menu, good value, interesting choices

I was thinking the same thing. It's like Chipotle meets Noodles & Company.

Build Your Own Bowl

This place was mediocre. I love the option to build your own bowl, but the flavor combination was a little strange to me.

Good Selection Build Your Own Bowl

They don't label the vegan/vegetarian items, but are happy to say what they are if you ask. You pick if you want noodles, rice or greens as a base, then add sauce and toppings. There are 3 vegan/veg sauces (pineapple garlic chutney, coconut ginger sauce and noodle broth) to pick from and lots of veg friendly toppings. The coconut ginger sauce was really tasty. My only complaint was that the food wasn't hot enough temperature wise.

Pros: fast, inexpensive, tasty

Cons: luke warm food, portions on the small side
