Great find - Edit
This place was great! I was able to choose from many vegan options but also accommodate my friend who eats a gluten-free diet. Serves meat but very well versed in terms of any dietary restrictions with clearly labeled vegan and gluten-free options. Cute place that has live music and unique cocktails. Would go again for sure!

Went for the Big Ol Vegan Cinnamon Roll and brunch. The cinnamon roll does not come out hot which I find super weird but our waiter kindly heated ours up upon request. Way better. Hubby and I then split the veganized Huevos Rancheros (they put the tofu scramble on top instead of fried eggs). It was all very good and our waiter was super helpful and on top of his game.

A fantastic place to eat if you have a mixed party of vegans and non vegans. I had the sesame orange tofu and it was fantastic! I ate way more than I should have! We also had the chocolate cheesecake for dessert which was lovely.

Uber Eats gem - Edit
Got here late in the evening on a work trip. Found on Uber eats, everything was clearly labeled. The vegan calamari is out of this world good!!! I am so glad I found this place. I’ll eat it every time I visit the area. Also loved the mushroom philly!

We celebrated our anniversary there. It was quite busy for a Tuesday. The ‘calamari’ appetizer was delicious! The vegan salads yummy. We had pad Thai it was okay.

I ordered my food online and as soon as I parked at curbside, someone was coming out to deliver my food to the car. I ordered an oyster mushroom po’boy with home fries. It was my first time eating oyster mushrooms and I loved it. The sandwich was absolutely amazing and mushrooms were fried to perfection. The home fries were just roasted potatoes but they were seasoned well. I can’t wait for a return trip. Hopefully I will be able to sit and enjoy the cafe atmosphere.

Nice brunch spot - Edit
I went here for Saturday brunch on the Saturday after Christmas. I think the vegan brunch options are really good. Everyone in my party had the garden tofu scramble, which was delicious. If I had to complain about one food-related thing, it would be that they could have more vegan bread options (only 1, but none of the sweet breads that they come standard with the entrees). The waitress's service wasn't good at all, but thankfully the rest of the staff were decent. It wasn't that busy either, so I don't know why the waitress wasn't more attentive. There was some piano music playing in the background, which was a nice touch. I'd definitely go back for brunch.

I’ve been here twice and I’m each time has been great. I am vegan and went to Sunday brunch with non vegans. There was something for everyone. The waitress was very helpful discussing the vegan options. I loved the musician. The music was good but not too loud as to disrupt our conversations

Tasty! - Edit
My husband and I ate at Irregardless on a Saturday evening. It was pretty crowded so I am glad we had reservations even though we had an early seating ( 5:30). The restaurant is very charming inside and they offer love music. The tables are arranged very close together and can be tight.
Read moreThe food was exceptional! The menu has several vegan/vegetarian options which is a nice change and listed on the menu as Entrees for Herbivores. We had the vegan onion rings and the vegan nachos as appetizers. The portions were so generous they completely filled us both up. For entrees, I had the vegan Falafel Croquettes and my husband had Chile Relleno (vegetarian). For desert we ordered and split the vegan chocolate layer cake - moist and rich. We ended up boxing up to take home half of the entrees and desert as we were full from the appetizers so we get another opportunity to enjoy the food. The dishes are quite creative with unusual combinations I haven't seen done before. All in all it was a unique and extremely tasteful dining experience.
Service was top notch and the dishes came out quickly. The manager goes around and greets diners as well.
We will return!
Pros: many good vegan options in appetizers, & salads, atmosphere
Cons: parking can be a problem, tables very close to one another

Lots of vegan options - Edit
So many delicious sounding vegan options, that I'll have to go again while in the area. I had the tasty Middle Eastern Platter to share, and delicious Woodland Pie for mains. It was so filling I took the leftovers for another meal. We didn't have a reservation but only had to wait 10 mins for a table for 5, on a busy Saturday night. The staff were friendly & the nice owner came by for a chat.

Terrible! - Edit
Was so excited to try the vegan food here but unfortunately never got the opportunity. Even though I had a reservation we still had to wait an hour while we watch parties bigger then us with a later reservation got sat. When alerting the manager he only Rudely yelled at us to basically keep waiting!! So we left. Seriously the rudest experience I have had in a long time!! Found out later from other review sites that the manger is known to do this to other people! Human kindness is just as important as animal kindness yet this doesn’t seem to be this establishments policy.

Decent but not awesome - Edit
The falafel platter appetizer was great. The veggies wrapped in phyllo were gooey and doughy and the side vegetables floppy and tired looking with not much taste. I wouldn’t eat it again. The moules frites were fishy tasting and we’ve had them in France that were much not fishy so I’d say these weren’t fresh. Fries were good though.

Worth Checking Out esp during Restaurant Week - Edit
The reviews on Happy Cow and in my own life, the feedback for Irregardless Cafe is mixed, but I do suggested checking it out. Sometimes my meal is awesome and I don't mind paying the expensive price tag for dinner (lunch prices are reasonable) BUT other times I'm like, "ugh I wish it was better."
Read moreThings to keep in mind when visiting: 1) Irregardless was the first vegetarian restaurant in Raleigh in 1975, but now they serve meat. 2) They are a farm-to-table restaurant so you may be eating veggies that were picked from their community garden that day. For vegan dishes, they tend to keep it simple whole foods. The food can be delicious and filling, but when you go, check out the menu, prices, and online specials beforehand (their online specials don't always match up to what's available). Last 2 times, I got the Woodline Pie and a salad with their "seitan"; I enjoyed both very much. Their seitan is more like soy/gluten meat. I think they purchase it from a local company that resembles chicken.
I have been there ~10 times in the last 3 years. I appreciate the affordable vegan 3 course meal they offer during Restaurant Week. During this time, they always have at least a vegan entree and dessert and if the app isn't vegan, they'll give you a side salad.
They have more than one type of vegan salad dressing and a THANK YOU to Irregardless for bulking up their salads with spring mix, raisins and sunflower seeds instead of sad iceberg lettuce. They serve bread at dinner and the only vegan bread is the whole wheat kind. They give out a bread plate at brunch but refused to give us the whole wheat bread because "they don't do that at brunch." Okay, then what will you do? :/
Why do I wish it was better? Well, 1) vegan brunch needs pancakes and waffles :D 2) Veggies that come w/ an entree tend to be too oily. 3) rotate vegan desserts. Branch out with vegan baked goods b/c there is potential. 4) the music is too loud for that space. With close tables, it's hard not to pick up other conversations or struggle to hear people at your table. 5) Can be overcrowded. If you like space, make a reservation and request a booth near the windows. 6) a little pricey for vegan dinner 7) I wish they had vegan butter for the bread.
I'll go again, but I'll request a table away from the music and I will continue to go during Restaurant Week when I can try some new dishes at an affordable cost.
Pros: whole foods, vegan options including "Restaurant Week", fresh
Cons: too loud when there is music, pricey

Earnest attempt at becoming a vegan locale in the Triangle - Edit
The menu lists a good daily selection of vegan options: bites to entres and dessert. However two features need to change to send Irregardless up a notch in vegan circles: wait staff need basic training in how to attend a vegan client, and the kitchen staff need to mix the menu up at more often, more creatively.
Read morePros: one of too few vegan stops in the area, home made polenta
Cons: little vegan awareness training for the staff, vegan menu is tired and needs novelty

Hi Seamusmack,
Read moreI've been living in Raleigh for three years now and around 2016 they did change their usual vegan offerings. Also sometimes they have specials that are only for lunch or dinner, but they don't advertise the specials often enough so I don't know when they have them. They are one of the few restaurants in the Triangle that participate with vegan options for almost all or all of the 3 courses for Restaurant Week.

My go to place - Edit
My husband and I have been eating at Irregardless for years and love this place! I have Celiac disease and they have a good amount of gf/vegan options. I have only been disappointed once in a lot of years. If you are going on the weekend I would definitely recommend a reservation and realize it will be crowded and noisy. We love the live music on the weekends but often go for lunch or dinner during the week to avoid the crowds. I find the food and service to be great!
